This is hilarious. The Daily Mail has revealed that Andy Burnham was jogging at 12.18pm, then he returned home 45 minutes in his VW Golf. His jog was just a photo op. Why pretend to jog? It just makes him look fake and untrustworthy. Something the public hate about politics.

@ArrivaKent Doesn't make the service any more reliable in the evening. Two timetabled services 132-Chatham to Hempsted Valley have failed to appear on Saturday evening

@RpsAgainstTrump You can disagree with his style, but dismissing the broader point ignores what the world actually responds to: power, clarity, and confidence.

For 'Interstellar' (2014) Christopher Nolan asked Hans Zimmer to compose the score with just a one-page story about a father who leaves his child to do an important job. It contained two lines of dialogue: "I'll come back" & "When?"

@BBCSport Great for Sheffield and probably snooker (or maybe not as there are many suitable venues that could readily host a World quality event). But how much and importantly why is 'national' funding being given to upgrade a venue that is full for a handful of days each year?

This is a total misunderstanding of the constitutional role of Parliament. Our system was never intended to be dominated solely by party politicians. The Commons represents the people, while the Lords has historically reflected the wider institutions and power brokers of the nation - the Church, the judiciary, the aristocracy, and independent expertise. Hereditary peers provide a living link to our history and bring an independence from the narrow tribalism of party politics. That continuity has long been a unique strength of our parliamentary system, not a weakness.
Nick Thomas-Symonds@NickTorfaen

Yesterday the final stages of the Bill to remove hereditary peers concluded. Parliament should be a place where talents are recognised. It should never be a place where titles handed out centuries ago hold power over the people. I’m proud to have delivered this manifesto pledge.

Sources close to the PM tell me that Andy Burnham was informed in no uncertain terms that he would be repulsed if he requested permission of the NEC committee to put his name forward for the Gorton and Denton by election. He chose to do so, they say, knowing the outcome in advance. They therefore interpret his application as an explicit attempt to destabilise Starmer and sow dissent, rather than - which he claims - see off the threat from Reform. Per contra Burnham and his supporters accuse Starmer and the NEC committee of an anti democratic stitch-up. These supporters include the MP signatories of a letter I talked about on ITV Evening News yesterday. It says “there is no legitimate reason why Andy Burnham should not have the democratic right to put his candidacy to the local people of Gorton and Denton.” They also argue that the standoff between Burnham and Starmer “risks playing into the kind of division and disunity that Nigel Farage and Reform thrive on.” That is a statement of the bleedin’ obvious. What will be contested is whether the prime culprit is the PM or the Manchester mayor.
