I can’t wrap my head around an economy where nursing homes cost enough to bankrupt families, yet the aides caring for our grandparents still rely on food banks. So what gives? If a lay person listened to democrats they would draw the only conclusion that the majority of people are on min wage well into their earning years when they are mature adults with families to provide for. This is simply not even remotely true except in extreme outlier cases.

According to the latest BLS data (2024), about 1% of hourly workers—roughly 843,000 out of 80.3 million—earn at or below the federal $7.25 minimum wage. These workers skew young: under-25s are 43% of them (vs 20% of all hourly workers). Most min-wage roles are entry-level in services/food service. For duration: it's typically temporary, especially for younger workers. Longitudinal studies show strong upward earnings mobility—many move to higher-paying jobs within a few years via experience, promotions, or switching roles. Long-term persistence at exactly min wage is uncommon for most individuals.

The last time Congress raised the federal minimum wage was 17 years ago this week. Texas is still at $7.25. Yet Congress has found the time to cut taxes for billionaires, over and over. Working people are long overdue for a raise.

"Inflation" is the polite word for "we're raising prices because we can." Corporate profits hit record highs while they blamed "supply chains" for price increases. They're not passing costs onto you, they're extracting maximum profit while you're too busy surviving to fight back.

I remember when my dad was a Building janitor at an elementary school in South Carolina and one of his White coworkers had a son who stole my Zoid toy from me, my dad found out, got the toy and told his mom. It was the end of the story and we moved on, I can’t imagine if my dad walked up to that child as a grown ass man and said “Give my son back his Zoid cracker.” I know that moment would have either made me racist or hateful, he chose to be an adult.
