Most important draft since 2015 coming this summer
SleeperAstros@SleeperAstros

The #Astros are ranked #17th on the first @MLB power rankings of the year. “There is a sense that the Astros’ prime era is over, but this is still a team with Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez and Hunter Brown. It will be nice to have Carlos Correa back home for a full season, and fascinating to see how Tatsuya Imai transitions to MLB.”

Due to need these RBs will most likely get pushed up Love going Top-5 Price should go back half of 2nd round but likely to be pushed up into Top-50 Really, no other RB should go Day 2 but 2-3 probably pushed up into 3rd round Best value for a RB is on Day 3
JaysonBraddock@JaysonBraddock

How I'd rank the RBs I've finalized & my round value: 1) Jeremiah Love (Top-10) 2) Jadarian Price (2nd-RD) 3) Jonah Coleman(3rd/4th-RD) 4) Emmett Johnson (3rd/4th-RD) 5) Demond Claiborne(4th-RD) 6) Mike Washington Jr (4th-RD)

Wilyer Abreu isn’t a “one who got away” guy for the Astros because they won a World Series with contributions from the dude they acquired for him. But Abreu would be a nice guy to still have right now.

Bryan Abreu said the Astros haven’t approached him about an extension, but unless Houston has an incredible offer, it would make little sense to sign one. Abreu could reset the market for non-closer relievers this winter. Some comps here - nytimes.com/athletic/71135…

Bryan Abreu will start the season as the Astros closer, which should help the pending free agent demonstrate to teams that he’s prepared to close next season. On Abreu and a fascinating free agency ahead - nytimes.com/athletic/71135…

@MrOptimisticHou To me he IS a vet guard. He's a guard who had to move to tackle but played in a downhill running game. The move to guard would mitigate his short arms and strengthen the run blocking. This team MUST get better at running the football. Period.

@TexansCap They moved him to tackle one spring at Auburn and it didn't work. I was shocked the Colts were able to turn him into a full-time tackle.

Braden Smith comes over from the Colts where he played RT and is likely the new LG (played guard at Auburn) for the Texans. He obviously could be competing for a spot at RT as well. He's a very strong and has a good background as run blocker in gap or zone schmes. Better than what the Texans have had for sure.

Turning in Mock 2.0 later tonight. The last mock was a hit because I played the hits with easy plug-ins. I'm going to see if I can't piss you off this time since drafts are never that chalky and many teams won't pass on a great player for just a good one at one position of need.

Everyone involved in the Astros' roster puzzle has now spoken ... including Yordan Alvarez, who offered a reminder that "I've never gotten hurt playing left field." On the eve of Houston's full-squad workout, all of the awkwardness fit for print - nytimes.com/athletic/70486…

Texans 6-RD Mock Draft exercise Wanted to lean more into BPA with need obviously still factored in at each selection 🤪 (At least 7 of the 8 players probably won't be available at the selection where I picked them but fun exercise during the process)

Position players are set to report to camp tomorrow, but there’s still a strong sense that the Astros are looking to trade Isaac Paredes. Does a deal get done today or will we have some really awkward interviews tomorrow? Yes, there’s probably a way for all of the infielders’ playing time to get figured out, but it involves a lot of days off and some pretty bad defensive alignments. HOU seems focused on an everyday outfielder who can hit left handed. There’s not a lot of straight swaps that make sense. Paredes is a perfect fit for the Astros lineup with his patient approach and pull side power potential. They cleared $6M in payroll this week so they could take on at least $15M in AAV in a trade, assuming Paredes and his contract head out. Some names that make sense for the Astros but don’t necessarily make sense for their current team include Kwan, Wallner, Frelick, Nootbar/Burleson, Stowers, and the entire Boston outfield situation. If you squint really hard, maybe Cronenworth. All this to say… I don’t know how a deal gets done. Even with a third team I think it’s going to be hard to get any of these guys. I think the more likely scenario is the Astros feel forced to sell low and take someone a step down for Paredes. I hope not, but that is just a gut feeling I’m getting watching things play out.
