@TroyMP94 @Funky_Media2 @EPM106 I said, maybe she did not want to sit through hours of makeup to put a couple blue splotches on her shoulders and cleavage. This would lead to a logical progression of the costume designer having to find something that would work practically for her
English

there is no design trend i hate more in these things than flesh-toned padding in place of where skin is shown in the original costume

@Zacwithanh2018 @Funky_Media2 @EPM106 You’ve spent a couple tweets saying it was Romijin’s wish and now it’s the costume designer pre-emptively making that choice?
English

@Funky_Media2 @TroyMP94 @EPM106 These are the kind of things that costume designers think of every time they make suits. There’s nothing body shaming about it. You have to think what would be the most practical for the actor and production you’re working with.

So the scene where he strings the bow is particularly interesting in contrast to Pasolini’s The Return, in which he warms the bow over the fire to make it more pliable. That’s similar to the kind of trick that the *suitors* try in Homer, and in Nolan’s version. Pasolini makes it about Odysseus’s vaunted cleverness rather than physical strength. But Nolan’s version is actually closer to the original in that here it’s the suitors who try to game the system and Odysseus doesn’t outsmart them—he’s just stronger. I think it really demonstrates how brains *and* brawn are part of what it means for him to be a complete hero, a man in full. There’s also a musical cue in Nolan that’s taken right from the similes in Book 21, where stringing the bow is compared to stringing a musical instrument and its sound is like that of a swallow. It’s one of the places where I think you can see Nolan is really attending to the text, whatever you make of how well or badly he interprets it

@Funky_Media2 @Zacwithanh2018 @EPM106 Yeah there’s a big difference between if she said this and some random stranger did. Remember how everyone claimed Wolverine needed sleeves because of Hugh Jackman’s skin cancer only for the sleeveless part to be a reveal?
English

@Zacwithanh2018 @TroyMP94 @EPM106 This just feels like body shaming coming from your end more than anything else
English

@Zacwithanh2018 @EPM106 I’m just saying it’s rare for celebs to get too self-conscious about their shoulders.

@StubbornOctopi @creepydotorg Wouldn’t Calypso being so different and Troy killing Menelaus and Agamemnon early inherently make this at least two universes?
English

@creepydotorg All that are actually part of the same universe
- Troy
- The Odyssey
- Pirates of the Caribbean: Calypso appears as a character.
- Twilight: the Volturi are Mycenaean Greeks
- Dune. House Atreides traces its lineage back to Agamemnon and the House of Atreus

@decoyrobot One of their bleakest films but I suppose he has a little more integrity there.
English

@TroyMP94 If I watched it now, I would probably be extremely depressed. Seen some people argue it’s not completely hopeless for him but I just don’t see it
English

People were doing this with the Coen Brothers, and one of them is writing and directing lesbian comedy thrillers with his open-marriage lesbian wife.
Cinephile armchair psychology can be very misguided

"chris nolan is conservative" discourse made sense in like 2010 but taken in a modern context he's so obviously woke that it's not even worth discussing
English

@TroyMP94 That scene is so good, it’s crushing as hell
English

@staticbluebat @decoyrobot The downstream of both Nolan and Snyder discussions is that cinephiles can be consciously liberal while internalizing a lot of conservative storytelling tropes and images.
English

@decoyrobot I do think a work of art can be conservative coded even if the director isn’t. Like hard to argue 300 is anything but regardless of Snyder being a run of the mill liberal guy

It is funny that after years of complaining about Mystique’s nudity, they’ve hilariously overcorrected and people are still mad.

I know this will make bank so this is worthless but man if they really wanted RDJ as a villain and to introduce Doom, I think it would’ve been much better and more fun to have RDJ as the Beyonder
