If this is REALLY true and not just damage control, I won't completely ban the PS5. A one time activation is no big deal since buying a digital game requires online in the first place.

Sony said new PS4/PS5 digital games require only a one-time online license check after purchase then no further check-ins needed afterward

So a short summary of the DRM PS4/PS5 drama: - It seemed Sony will do a 30 day check in on games to verify licence - Turns out after 14-day refund window, one online connect upgrades it to permanent DRM-free forever. - No 30 day checks anymore after that... Just stops refund exploits on jailbroken consoles - But the main issue is Sony is still silent, they could've avoided all this

Any PlayStation game purchased digitally after March's sytem update will reportedly now require an internet connection once every 30 days to validate the license 🎮 If the console stays offline longer than that, the games will not launch until you reconnect (via @MrZackXOfficial)

This is how it starts.
First it's a "one-time" check.
Then it's multiple times.
It's only a matter of time after the fact you need the internet connection to play digital games at all. All the while they push systems that don't have disc drives.

The social media bros manufacturing outrage over a common 2026 practice is hilarious.
Like I said last night, this argument worked in 2013. In 2026 a one time license check is how every digital storefront works.
