Eritrea’s real journalists languish in prison: year after year. These are fakes. Puppets of the regime

The case of Dawit Isaak stands as one of the clearest symbols of Eritrea’s brutal assault on freedom of expression. Detained for years without charge or trial, cut off from his family and the world, this is a grave and unforgivable violation of the rule of law and human dignity. Such cruelty tears families apart and reveals a totalitarian system that survives by silencing truth and punishing those who speak it. #DawitIsaak must be released. Eritrea’s repression and attacks on free expression must never be normalized or forgotten. #Eritrea #BlueRevolution #RegimeChangeInEritrea @TheRWCHR @Edelstam @bergersus @ElizabethTecle @SwedenUN @SweMFA @SwedeninEU @BereketKahsai1 @Europarl_EN @StateDept @WeldetnsaeG @SenatorDurbin @TiborPNagyJr @mrubin1971 @KjetilTronvoll

Dawit Isaak was arrested during a major crackdown by the Eritrean government under President Isaias Afwerki, targeting independent journalists and reformist politicians (including the G-15 group) who called for democratic changes. He co-owned and wrote for Setit, Eritrea's first independent newspaper. He holds dual Eritrean-Swedish citizenship. He is widely regarded as one of the world's longest-imprisoned journalists, held incommunicado (likely in facilities like Carchele prison or Eiraeiro camp), with reports of torture, poor health, and denial of medical care. Several fellow journalists arrested at the same time have died in custody. Eritrea has provided almost no information on his status, though officials have occasionally claimed he is alive but offered no proof or access. #BlueRevolution #RegimeChangelnEritrea @MariaStenergard @SweMFA #DawitIsaak #TransnationalRepression @bergersus @TheRWCHR @HostageAid @JasonPoblete @MehariMeng53005 @journalistforb @pressfreedom @Tunback @bergersus @UNHumanRights @BBCWorld @Sverigesriksdag @sdriks @SvD @IntlCrimCourt @afric_insde #BlueRevolution #RegimeChangeInEritrea #EBRF @Sverigesriksdag @SwedenGeneva @SwedeninEU @SwedenUN @SweMFA @moderaterna @svtnyheter @SvD @SwedishPM @svt @sverigesradio @DNDebatt @Aftonbladet @Sweden

5/5 A Scar That Never Heals: What 24 Years of Silence Did to Dawit Isaak—and to the “Civilized” World hostageaid.org/a-scar-that-ne… Washington D.C. - Poblete Dispatches A senior Swedish minister says she pressed, in person, for release and reunion; and Sweden now publicly assesses he is alive. Those are not endpoints. They are invitations for serious people to do serious work with fewer microphones. If the result is nothing more than a father walking through a doorway into a smaller, quieter life, scarred, older, carrying a heavy cross, that will be more than enough. @FreeDawit @JasonPoblete

5/5 Pressure Eritrea to Free Dawit Isaak Now That the Country Is Releasing Other Prisoners hostageaid.org/pressure-eritr… Sweden - Göteborgs-Posten The release of the thirteen can therefore be seen as a potential bright spot — an indication that the country may be moving in a new direction. But it also raises an uncomfortable question: how will @SweMFA proceed now, when Eritrea is actually releasing prisoners who have been held almost as long as Dawit Isaak, thereby showing that movement is indeed possible? Now is the time for Sweden to take the next step. On 27 October this year, Dawit Isaak turned 61. He has spent the past 24 years in prison. The Swedish state must seize this opportunity and increase the pressure on Eritrea. @Tunback @Erik_Larsson @FreeDawit @BietelhemI

"Silent diplomacy is a proper strategy in the early stages of difficult consular cases," says @KjetilTronvoll What strategies 🇸🇪 has tried in secret is not known, but an international public 'shaming campaign' against the regime, combined with targeted EU sanctions, is lacking.”

Sweden has stayed publicly silent on #DawitIsaak for 24 years. The claim that ‘Eritrea wants nothing’ is simply wrong. The regime values plenty. 🇸🇪USE THAT LEVERAGE! NOW!! @MariaStenergard @SwedishPM @SweMFA @bergersus @TheRWCHR @HostageAid @JasonPoblete journalisten.se/debatt/det-eri…
