@ShaunTonstad Thank you for posting that (and over in the Unity board). As someone using BIRP camera stacking all the time, I pray that some of the Unity staff at least see and considers it. But I don't have much hope.

#unity3d plans to sunset the built-in render pipeline (BIRP) in 2028 in favor of URP. But what if BIRP is significantly faster, especially in scenes that use multiple cameras? That situation is common in split-screen games and rendering to off-screen textures. #indiedev [1/3]

As an indie dev without access to expensive marketing data, places like SteamDB and SteamSpy are the only things I have to get market insight and plan my games. Valve's lockdown of public profiles has made things a lot harder already, so please don't take that last bit of intel away from us.

I still believe you can make a AAA'ish game today with a team of 40 people instead of 200 if you cut down on the red tape and the bullshit. When we shipped the OG Crysis back in 2007 the actual core team was way under 100 people. Of course, the credits listed like 700 people with all the publisher staff :)

@rabastad 100%, probably by 10x. They get huge inefficiencies for trying to have hundreds work on a game too.

Battlenet was just 2 people for the longest time. X is just 30. You don't need a staff of hundreds to run these things. Somehow, most of tech forgot how.

In 2025 is any "indie" working on a game where you do *not* build a deck? Of cards? Those pieces of paper that people used to make simple trifle games before computers were invented?

@monsterhunter45 Being a young dad is so much more fun. Can't imagine what it must be like to get a kid in your forties.

This is terrible advice. We had 3 kids by the time we were 30, and were poor for most of that. Now I’m 50, have four awesome kids, am really well off financially, and our biggest regret is that we didn’t have more kids while we were younger. Don’t have kids before you are ready (but mentally and spiritually ready are more important than financially ready), but putting an arbitrary 30 on it is stupid, and a great way to end up not having any kids to pass that generational wealth on to at all. Plus, being an old dad to little kids sucks compared to being a young dad. I’ve got friends who waited forever to have kids and now they are getting their old asses kicked and won’t have them out of the house until they are senior citizens. I’ve got peers with grade schoolers while I’ve got adult children. No way. That shit is TIRING. 😀
