That said, I don't think this dude's timing is valid. If you aren't doing equivalent motion-to-photon measurements for the two methods, you aren't really measuring anything. But I'd like to see him make a dummy "running taskbar" that opens a dialog and do real timing.

@cmuratori @pikuma TUI resource consumption isn't very extreme, it's often a fraction of the size of the GUI equivalent. At the very least, they much simpler and more reliable than GUIs.

I understand the appeal of cul-de-sac life. It’s seen as a multipurpose space for kids to play and calms traffic. A much better solution is to create neighborhoods with better parks that kids can play in and have places that people can walk/bike to instead of driving.

@windowsinsider Please stop saying things you know to be false. It’s insulting. There is no commitment. Windows is dying a slow death. Nobody involved has any motivation to stop it. It becomes more embarrassing every day.

If you seriously believe that the same people that manipulate people via main stream media (for clearly evil purposes) wouldn't use subtle ways to use AI to manipulate us, you're dumb. It's being forced down our throats for a reason. Don't rely on ai for programming.

It drives me crazy how almost every new piece of media is laced with one-sentence-depth propaganda. It completely artistically devalues everything.

Probably one of my most controversial takes: "accessibility" to development is a huge cause & acceleration of the decline in software quality. Tools shape & change the way we think; current AI is a tool which is probably not good for software development.
dax@thdxr

i wish people understood both of these things 1. yes software quality is generally pretty bad and we need to figure out how to try harder 2. there is so much software that needs to be built - making it more accessible with higher level languages, frameworks, AI, services, is a good thing

As a consequence of software in most products, everything is more expensive to produce, thus more expensive to buy, less reliable, slower, and rots more quickly.

whenever I DM someone following me my account instantly gets locked (knew that) but also Twitter sets the other user to unfollow and mute me immediately without intervention on their part, which I just found out today and is insane gaslighting for both parties.

@SebAaltonen If they know in advance that the following year's release will be a 4K OLED, then the anchoring bias gives it marketing sense.

Sony has heavily marketed 4K gaming since the release of the PS4 Pro. And now they release a 1440p PlayStation monitor? The frame rate also doesn't match the console's frame rate. I have no idea how they came to the conclusion that this is a good idea.

I don't understand Sony's new PlayStation monitor. It's 240Hz 1440p. PlayStation is 120Hz 4K. There's no 240Hz mode in PS5. 1440p output wasn't supported at launch. Not all games support it natively. Why didn't they release a 120Hz 4K monitor instead? tomshardware.com/monitors/gamin…

The most interesting and accurate technical responses on X come from anonymous accounts with cartoon profile pictures, pictures of toast or other generic items. The one with corporate headshots and ex-FAANG in their bios usually provide nothing of value.
