@browntechdude @MKBHD ram will be your bottle neck probably. 16gbs is the comfortable minimum for running chrome + ide + local servers for db or services

@MKBHD Please do cover how it performs for coding. There’s a lot of new developers who want a mac and are considering this. It’ll be very helpful.

Testing the Macbook Neo these past couple days has been incredibly impressive, I've thrown everything at it to try to get an idea of what its ceiling actually is. Finishing the full review video now, to upload shortly...

its solid for new features in existing code bases too. it can quickly generate controllers, validations, service calls, and db updates if you feed it existing examples of those file types from your code base. the key is to assume is to generate one part at a time though and assume its about 80-90% correct where manual intervention is then required

@ThePrimeagen It’s an incredible tool for learning and jumping from “I can’t do that” to “I can kinda do that” in 2 hours instead of 2 months. It’s also quite great at going from 0 to mvp quickly for simple projects. It’s not for doing the kind and level of coding you’re doing, probably.

i often feel like i am missing something with ai all these tweets claiming it is the greatest thing ever... yet, i dont see the same thing. I have a list of activities where its incredible at, but none of them at the writing of code, more comprehension only wtf is wrong with me

@lucas_montano the technical challenges are shifting from implementation to systems design. Where the best developers will be able to create suites of applications that can scale and compete with large businesses. Vibe coding alone will not be able to do this

the joy of coding is gone think about it for a second, if we actually go down this road of vibe coding we will absolutely kill the joy of coding i have worked in projects that the only thing driving me was the technical challenges vibe coding will force you to understand that the code was just the means to the end and that only developers care about it but in a possible future this care will be replaced by a sad feeling of not having the time, the priority of enjoying solving a technical challenge by yourself

@odyssjii @brandur @AgileJebrim they’re all “good” languages after having multiple major version updates that added new syntax or programming paradigm concepts to compete with other languages

@brandur @AgileJebrim What is unfortunate is that both Java and C# are actually pretty good languages if you just use them as ”fancy C with garbage collection” instead of whatever slop is being recommended as the idiomatic approach.

Java: You're trying to understand how some code works. Open a file, it's ~20 lines of trivial boilerplate and getters/setters. Open another, same. And another. And another. This happens like 75 times. It's legitimately hard to find a place where anything is actually being done.

@lucasMnts honestly would mind seeing this in code bases for large static objects or logs. there’s a reason why tables are the preferred UI for reading data

@valigo was thinking about why OOP became so popular and it was probably because they were the first ones to popularize encapsulation along with being able to run on any machine via java virtual machine

OOP people are crazy. They will take the most mundane thing in programming ever - passing arguments to a function, and call it DEPENDENCY INJECTION, and then will sell you books and courses about it.

@TygerrFish @mike_trainor @bryan_johnson At 25mg of psilocybin / 5g dried weight it's weak product at 0.5%. B+ ranges from 0.5% to 1.0 % (penis envy excepted) Also tekking for 5 min has little effect on increasing intensity. Needs to be at least 15 - 20 mins. Sounds like an heroic dose by weight but by potency it's not.

@londonboreal @ChShersh neovim using luascript over vim script alone was enough of a reason for me to switch. and the only problem i see with customizing your editor is if you regularly ssh into servers that only support vim.

@ChShersh Do not install neovim unless you want to create a tight coupling between yourself and your text editor or unless you want to turn running your text editor into a programming challenge.

@a_musingcat nah, you’re just deconstructing human perception through experimenting with your focus and observing the results. Phenomenology studies this kind of stuff if you’re looking for a more academic understanding

🇨🇳 CHINA UNVEILS ITS OWN VERSION OF THE JAVELIN China’s military is now training with the HJ-12 - a third-gen portable anti-tank missile that looks suspiciously familiar. Nicknamed the “Chinese Javelin,” it’s clearly inspired by the U.S. system made famous in Ukraine. The HJ-12 can lock on, fire, and forget - but the real question is: how does the knockoff perform when it counts? Made in China, now with explosive results. Source: @OSINTWarfare

🚨🇵🇱 BREAKING: POLAND CLEARS $800M U.S. JAVELIN ARMS DEAL Washington has approved a massive $800 million package for Poland, authorizing the sale of 253 Javelin anti-tank launchers and more than 2,500 FGM-148F missiles. The move comes as Warsaw confronts ongoing Russian drone incursions and works to harden its defenses. The deal underscores Poland’s deepening military partnership with the U.S. at a time of heightened regional threats. Source: @visegrad24

@rickyfm apples to oranges comparison here. this example doesn’t account for the “magic” aspect running in a production environment or automatically being triggered by an application event. context matters

there's too much magic in prettier. it has a config file that's magically read, with magic strings and that magically reformats my file and i have no idea how???? i hate magic, prettier should be an explicit function you wrap your code in so new devs can understand how it works
