Louisiana’s Attorney General just filed a brief urging the Supreme Court to gut the Voting Rights Act. If she’s successful, it could wipe out half the Congressional Black Caucus. This wouldn’t just take us back to 1964 — it would take us back to 1877, the end of Reconstruction. It would open the door to eliminate Black city council districts, legislative seats, and congressional districts across America. Even in majority-Black cities, we’d be left with only at-large or citywide seats. This isn’t just about Louisiana. It’s about dismantling Black political power everywhere. I keep saying this is the factory of modern day white supremacy. Maybe now people will listen. Maybe now the national attention will come where it should be, Louisiana.
