How did you get interested in #defence? As I said to @simonharrisitv @itvnews, #Sikhs have huge military tradition, including my ancestors who made incredible contributions during the World Wars. We must respect and learn more about those willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.

🌍Commemoration‘s role in global diplomacy Our cemeteries and memorials are silent witnesses to the human cost of war. This year, as we mark VE and VJ Day 80, our sites remain platforms for dialogue, reflection, and peace—reminding us what happens when diplomacy fails. From NATO’s visit to our sites in Gallipoli, to the Pope’s service of peace in our Rome War Cemetery, and UNESCO’s recognition of 51 of our WWI sites, our work in commemoration continues to unite nations in shared remembrance. 🔗 Today we are teaming up with highly regarded Royal United Services Institute (@RUSI_org) to hold an event where we will be discussing the role of commemoration in diplomacy. With the World Wars gradually falling out of living memory, the event will be looking at the role that commemoration has to play now and in the future in supporting international diplomacy. You can watch live here: ow.ly/8eBl50VkxxA The event will include a keynote address from Lord Ricketts who served as chair of the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC) under Prime Minister Tony Blair. He was the UK government's first national security adviser from 2010 from 2012, serving under Prime Minister David Cameron. A range of panellists with international military, political and diplomatic expertise will consider the relevance of war commemoration for future generations and its potential to help governments and countries meet global challenges
