@ChrisCotillo You better not be tweeting today that Slaten is being placed on the IL

Go Sox!

@gregmcantwell @JonahDispatch Exactly what came to mind - it’s pure cult of personality bs
English

@JonahDispatch This is up there with Kim’s people saying he had seven holes-in-one the first time he played golf.
English

@growthhub_ did he say “licensed acupuncturist specializing in neuroscience”?
English

@aron_brand @kiaran_ritchie I’ve seen the exact counter argument also put forward: that these models will know you so well and you will establish a personal connection with your chatbot to the point where the costs of switching for your well-being is so high that you’ll be locked in (Econoclasts podcast)
English

@kiaran_ritchie Regardless of open source, the frontier models already look nearly interchangeable. When products are close substitutes and switching costs are low, economics says margins converge toward the minimum.
English

I don't see how Anthropic, OpenAI or any of the model providers have any hope of defending their moats. And consequently, I think they're going to get wiped out.
Right now, in early 2026 they have a meaningful advantage in terms of model capability. But far cheaper and open source models are not far behind.
How long can they maintain a meaningful advantage? For the vast majority of use cases, we don't actually need much higher intelligence. It doesn't take 140 IQ to automate Turbotax or powerpoint.
Eventually we will be saturated in cheap, local models that are "good enough". Of course some scientific labs and frontier research will always want the latest and greatest. But that market is orders of magnitude smaller than these company valuations can justify.
What am I missing?

@RazOlsRF Think his movement is fine; more impressed by his touch play around the net - threw in and executed drop shots well when he did so and was good around the net. Didn’t expect that. Plus his serve is a monster. Definitely impressed
English

@TechrsTlamunus @BaseballQuotes1 Same thing - he didn’t even flinch so either iron tough, iron knees or thigh pads/protectors on maybe?
English

@BaseballQuotes1 amazing but also OW. that's going to be a colourful as fuck bruise.

@FootballCliches @CDEccleshare @NickMiller79 Watching the NLD on USA network and Joe Speight just said that Dragusin is Spurs “longthrow man” for today (42 minute mark) - never heard this before so flagging it just in case it can included in the -man pantheon!

Recording FOOTBALL CLICHES with @CDEccleshare & @NickMiller79 (💯) on Monday...
Let's have your questions, observations, football-linguistic examinations, footballers' names in things & anything else at all for the Adjudication Panel
Cheers!

English

@CMcLaughlin84 @FootballCliches @CDEccleshare @NickMiller79 Maybe he’s a listener of the pod and knew to avoid the trap. If so, he’s doing it in a foreign language so listen, fair play

@EvanFeigenbaum This label is helpful and Greenland is a case in point: the public justifications cover over the fact Trump wants Greenland for pure ego - an historical legacy that will be likely renamed Trumpland. For me though, I’m wondering why smart people do this? Proximity to power only?
English

There is this thing I call "Trump strategic retrofitting." Much of what is happening in American foreign policy is happening for one reason only - it springs from the mind of the President of the United States. But a huge swath of people who, frankly, should know better then "retrofit" it - they twist themselves into pretzels imputing strategic logic or ascribing Bismarckian genius to his ideas. Spoiler alert: The President is not, in fact, Otto von Bismarck and it really should behoove people to call some of this madness out for what it is.

@IDntLikeCrickit @laura_woodsy That in paying his respects to Gabby Logan’s dad, he also manages a) to take credit for her hiring at Sky and b) says that he only hired her because of her dad ie denigrating her own talent as a broadcaster. The first part of the tweet is tribute; the second part not so much
English

@laura_woodsy What are you offended by exactly , Laura ? I’ve read it a few times now and can’t find anything at all. What am I missing here?
English

Sorry…but what a tw*t. Said with zero surprise.
Richard Keys@richardajkeys
Sad to hear the news of Terry Yorath’s passing. He was a warrior & won fans over wherever he played. He was great for us at Coventry & the reason I got Gabby a job at Sky. I had no idea who she was when we met but I knew her dad. RIP Terry. Your daughter did you proud.

@d_penrose @Stevelfc1 Tbf to Man U fans, enough of them gave Amorim way more support than he ever merited. Ours have thrown their toys out of the pram because we’ve lost a few matches - it’s embarrassing.
English

@Stevelfc1 YNWA is getting a battering atm!? Acting like Utd fans!!

@Greeny_65 @Carl_M79 He deffo would have? He came 2nd twice - that’s it. In 9 seasons. Points totals are irrelevant when the rest of the league is shit. He came 3rd twice, 4th twice, 5th and 8th. I love Klopp and think he’s a legend. The idea that Slot is a fraud though is just deluded
English

@UMD_PSC382 @Carl_M79 But he came very very close with record no of points on a few occasions, only beaten by City by very small margins. It was only a matter of time before he did win it again with his squad and he would have deffo done it last season.
English

@Greeny_65 @Carl_M79 Funny thing is, Klopp couldn’t actually do it with “his squad” or his “mentality”. And only won the title once in 9 years if you recall - a season in which, using your logic, Man City “dropped off”.
English

@Carl_M79 Do you honestly think that no other manager would have won us the title with Klopp’s squad, Klopp’s mentality, a Salah on fire, and a drop off for City & Arsenal etc. Slot has been dining out on this for too long now. I’d love him to turn it around but he isn’t is he?
