In UN Blockchain Talks #8, we used the story of a fictional trader (Mariama) in The Gambia to examine #stablecoins at the last mile, and where a payment still needs to be converted, spent, trusted, and supported locally. 🌟 The session looked at remittances, cash-out points, agent networks, liquidity, user protection, and the institutional delays that can leave people waiting even when faster payment tools already exist. 💸 Money is moving on new rails, and the real challenge is ensuring those rails can reach the last mile reliably – and in ways people can actually use. ✨ Instead of a standard panel, UN Blockchain Talks #8 is designed around a payment scenario set in a remote area. Three speakers with very different vantage points respond to that story as it unfolds: a researcher who has done ethnographic fieldwork on blockchain in crisis zones, a founder who built and ran a live payment pilot in The Gambia and the African continent, and the person leading digital asset payments globally at Citi, and co-founded a wallet in Haiti.
