The Australian government’s decision to advance the “News Bargaining Incentive” is concerning, as it amounts to a discriminatory tax on U.S. digital services. CSI encourages the U.S. government to engage and push back against this digital services tax.

The French Parliament is poised to double to 6% a tax targeted at US digital services firms. USTR already investigated and concluded the tax discriminates against American business. We hope the Trump admin will push the French government to refrain from this escalatory move.

The US has won important commitments on digital trade from partners in Asia and Latin America. As Amb. Greer and Sec. Lutnick head to Brussels, we hope they’ll also press the EU to treat American companies fairly on the regulations and tax front.

As U.S.–Brazil trade discussions advance, CSI urges Brazil to refrain from adopting digital or services measures that would create new non-tariff barriers for U.S. services and digital providers.

I am shocked to learn that Brazil, in the middle of trade discussions with the U.S., is fast-tracking a DMA-style bill that targets U.S. companies. I support @POTUS’ strong stance against these damaging digital markets regulations around the world and will work with the administration to respond to this development. I urge Brazil to reject this failed EU approach that harms innovation and will further undermine the U.S.-Brazil relationship.

On the latest move by the French Nat Assembly to double the digital services tax, we agree w/ the French economy minister: lousy idea. The 3% tax was wrong-headed enough - clearly a revenue grab aimed at US companies. But doubling down on bad is worse. We hope reason prevails.
