SECRETARY RUBIO: Our desire is not to hurt the people of Iran. Frankly, we wish the voices of the people of Iran were heard as opposed to having 40,000 of them murdered in the streets, inside of hospitals, and executed on a routine basis. They are victims of that regime.

SECRETARY RUBIO: The Strait of Hormuz is basically the equivalent of an economic nuclear weapon that Iran is trying to use against the world. They’re bragging about holding the world’s energy hostage. Imagine if those same people had access to a nuclear weapon.

SECRETARY RUBIO: In the aftermath of this conflict, I hope that the whole world’s eyes have been opened to the threat Iran poses. What they want to do with the world with a nuclear weapon is what they are doing now with oil.

Excellent meeting with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and his Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. I reemphasized our appreciation for the Prime Minister’s tireless efforts and effectiveness as a facilitator of negotiations, as well as for Pakistan’s continued contributions to regional and global stability. He also commended President Trump for his leadership in advancing peace, highlighting the importance of his continued engagement and the meaningful progress being made through his ongoing efforts.

STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP:

.@POTUS: "We're negotiating over the weekend... I expect things to go well. Many of these things have been negotiated and agreed to... The main thing is that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon. You cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon — and that supersedes everything else."

PRESS SEC on U.S.-Iran negotiations: The Pakistanis have been incredible mediators and we really appreciate their friendship and efforts to bring this deal to a close.  The President feels it's important to continue to streamline this communication through the Pakistanis.

"I think it was the first time that you'd ever seen the Iranian government, the U.S. government meet at such a high level, maybe in the history of the current leadership of Iran. So that's, I think, a positive—and again, we did make some progress in the negotiation," says @VP. "What @POTUS has said is number one, Iran can never have a nuclear weapon. So, all of our red lines flow from that fundamental premise."

Vice President JD Vance gives an update in Pakistan: "The simple fact is that we need to see an affirmative commitment that they will not seek a nuclear weapon, and they will not seek the tools that would enable them to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon."

.@VP departs for Islamabad, Pakistan: "As @POTUS said, if the Iranians are willing to negotiate in good faith, we're certainly willing to extend the open hand. If they're going to try to play us, then they're going to find that the negotiating team is not that receptive."

.@VP: "We are seeing signs that the Straits are starting to reopen... The deal is a ceasefire, a negotiation — that's what we give — and what they give is the Straits are going to be reopened. If we don't see that happening, @POTUS is not going to abide by our terms if the Iranians are not abiding by their terms."

PRESS SEC: The President took out the imminent threat, and hopes that Iran will be a country of peace and prosperity. We’re moving into this next round of negotiations to hopefully come to an agreement with this new regime that will create long-term stability in the Middle East.
