🔬 STRIVE clinical trial now open in Aotearoa, New Zealand ANZGOG, in partnership with @CDNCancerTrials (CCTG), is pleased to announce the activation of the STRIVE clinical trial in Aotearoa, New Zealand 🇳🇿 STRIVE (ANZGOG2109/2021; CCTG VU.2) represents an important step forward in advancing evidence-based surgical management for women diagnosed with vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC). VSCC accounts for more than 90% of vulvar cancers and arises via two distinct biological pathways: • HPV-associated • HPV-independent, often linked to lichen sclerosus Emerging evidence suggests these subtypes behave differently, with implications for surgical management and recurrence risk. However, optimal treatment strategies have not been formally tested in a prospective trial. STRIVE is an international, prospective stratification study designed to refine surgical decision-making based on tumour biology, including HPV status and molecular markers such as p53 and dVIN. The trial aims to: • Improve risk stratification • Inform margin assessment • Reduce recurrence rates • Support personalised treatment pathways For HPV-associated tumours, the study will assess whether less extensive surgery can safely reduce complications and improve function without increasing recurrence risk. For HPV-independent tumours, STRIVE will evaluate whether tailored surgical approaches can reduce the likelihood of recurrence where high-risk biological features are present. The first Australasian site at Auckland City Hospital opened on 30 January 2026 and is actively recruiting, with Dr Lois Eva as Principal Investigator. The study is co-chaired in ANZ by Professor Paul Cohen and Dr Lois Eva. Given the relative rarity of vulvar cancer, international collaboration is essential. STRIVE brings together global expertise to generate the evidence needed to strengthen clinical guidelines and improve outcomes for women. 🔗 ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT06358469 More information: anzgog.org.au/strive-trial #ClinicalTrials #GynaecologicalCancer #VulvarCancer #CancerResearch #GlobalCollaboration
