Supporting 🇸🇴’s security transition takes strong partnership. 🇬🇧 HMA @CharlesKingFCDO met Acting ASG and Head of @UNSOS_ Qurat ul-Ain Sadozai in Mogadishu. The 🇬🇧 thanked UNSOS for its vital support to AUSSOM & SSF, and reaffirmed its commitment to 🇸🇴’s security transition.

Today in Mogadishu, SRCC and Head of #AUSSOM, Amb. El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, met with @UKinSomalia Ambassador @CharlesKingFCDO to discuss progress in implementing AUSSOM's mandate and sustaining #peace and stability in Somalia. Discussions focused on the UK's continued support to #Somalia's #peace and security efforts, including strategic partnerships, and strengthening #AUSSOM's operational and logistical capacities. Amb. Diene thanked @UkinSomalia for its continued commitment to Somalia and regional stability, with both parties reaffirming the importance of sustained international support for Somalia-led stabilisation and security transition.

At Somalia's #UPR today 🇬🇧 recommended that 🇸🇴 - Prioritises protecting the rights of children & everyone under 18 - Ratifies Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women - Ensures freedom of speech & strong protections for journalists in Somalia.

We wish Sir David Attenborough a very happy 100th birthday. His passion for the natural world has galvanised international action to preserve it like nobody else.

My statement on the latest political developments ⬇️

Today in #Mogadishu, SRCC and Head of AUSSOM, H.E. Amb. El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, met a delegation of the #UnitedKingdom #Government Strategic Mission Assessment Tool (SMAT). Discussions focused on implementing AUSSOM’s mandate, including operational priorities, logistics and predictable, sustainable funding to support mission implementation. They also underscored the tripartite @_AfricanUnion @UN #Somalia partnership as key to coordinated and effective support and action. The engagement reviewed mission progress, aligned priorities, and reinforced coordination with partners. Amb. Diene reaffirmed #AUSSOM’s commitment to supporting Somali-led efforts to strengthen security institutions, advance stability, and promote long-term peacebuilding.

Building on the UK-convened WPS/SSR roundtable, there is a timely opportunity to formalize stronger, more coherent coordination mechanisms and integrate more gender sensitive approaches to improve women's access to justice and peace-building processes.

Day 2 commenced with appreciation to the @EU_in_Somalia and the @UKinSomalia for their long-standing partnership with UN Women towards ensuring that women are not just participants but leaders in Somalia’s journey toward peace, security, and development. #ForAllWomenAndGirls
