On the #InternationalWomensDay, what an honor it is for me to be listed among the other notable experts in their fields working towards women’s rights and gender mainstreaming of the @SDG2030. I thank the New York City Bar Association @NYCBarAssn for this important recognition. At a time where conflict related deaths are on its record high, where we see a significant set back of decades of progress in democracies, SDG 5: gender equality far far away from its target line, I still think that today is a great chance to disseminate the best practices of women human rights defender, activists, civil society pioneers and peace makers. We will all continue combat state-led atrocity crimes, lead intergovernmental actions for the release of political prisoners and work towards ending gender-apartheid regimes. I will end with this UN Women’s motto for this year: invest in women, accelerate the progress of peace and security. #InvestingInWomen #March2024

It was encouraging to meet with the @unfoundation Next Generation Fellows, recognizing their active contributions to shaping global agendas and connecting multilateral processes with the realities of young people on the ground. Rebuilding trust in multilateralism requires institutions to listen, adapt, and demonstrate impact. I am reading @JJGreenWTOP’s “The Noise War” these days; a very practical handbook with highlights on how to identify the flood of disinformation and provides strategic countermeasures. Green says, “The battle for territory has become inseparable from the battle for truth.” Absolutely right. Control of public discourse is among the first signs of authoritarian tendencies. Manipulative content, purposely tailored disinformation campaigns, and defamation acts against human rights advocates, journalists, and civil society members have been increasingly widespread on a global level.

Resilience through a simple act of skiing. Enjoying a simple life like simple people. This was all that courageous skiers wanted living in Bamyan / Afghanistan. I was incredibly touched to see the heartwarming friendship that sparked between the two youth rivalries, which aimed to be the champion of the annual ski race in Bamyan, despite the never-ending hostilities within different ethnic groups. Champions of the Golden Valley is a unique documentary that displays Afghanistan before and after the Taliban's latest takeover. The production crew began filming this impactful best practice of living together in harmony through sports in 2019, unaware of what the future held for Afghanistan. Visionary ski coach Alishah Farhang, a young gentleman, says back in 2019 that he could have chosen to migrate from Afghanistan to Europe for a better life, but then he underlines: then who will prosper our communities if not Afghan youth themselves? It was extremely dire to see his family trying to get into a plane with one simple backpack in August 2021, as the barbaric Taliban regime took over again, leaving no civic space for anyone, and wiping out women from society by introducing brutal decrees. Besides highlighting the role of sports combatting polarization within communities due to ethic, religious, and cultural disparities, the documentary also reminds us that nobody wishes to become a refugee, and all enforced displaced individuals had countless titles back in their homeland that are very easy to transfer in an instant to their resettlements. Mujtaba and Hussain Ali, the Champions of the Golden Valley, I am in awe of your resilience and persistence in choosing peaceful co-existence despite all forms of violence destroying your lives. @UNANYC

Today, the SG presented “Shifting Paradigms: United to Deliver,” the third workstream that outlines proposals to strengthen the Organisation’s delivery across its three pillars.
