@Niall912022 @robfordmancs You mean Goodwin is trashing his own reputation just to attract attention to himself? That would be incredibly sad. No-one could possibly feel jealous.

@robfordmancs Jealousy from you towards Matt is very sad. He became famous.. you didn't. Maybe try producing something isn't that conventional liberal wisdom and people might pay attention to you.

It is ironic that someone who is lately firing off rhetorical cannons about challenging official narratives keeps putting out selective and misleading claims about polling which can be disproved with a one minute visit to the polling company website/Twitter feed

NEW. These numbers really are striking: -67% of Brits blame immigration policy for protests -58% of Brits sympathise with peaceful protests -42% think protests (not unrest) are "justifiable" -34% of ALL Brits support protests (not unrest) mattgoodwin.org/p/breaking-wha…

@lwahlgrensmith @PedanticPerson @AyoCaesar … be to recognise that your distaste is your problem, and not the problem of the people practising the custom in question. Things you can do to address your problem do not include expecting others to stop practising the custom, or feeling “oppressed” because you can’t do that.

@lwahlgrensmith @PedanticPerson @AyoCaesar Well, racism and bigotry are common and, to that extent, not outlandish. But they’re still racist and bigoted. If for some reason you dont like to see foreign customs being practised, your first step should be to acknowledge that this is irrational.your second should…

I don't know if you're deliberately stupid, or if it just comes naturally, but the video you've shared has nothing to do with the riots. The singing and chest-beating is to mark the Shia Muslim holy day of Ashura, which commemorates the death of Husayn ibn Ali.

@AyoCaesar It’s the muslims who are waging a culture war.

Coolock protesters were hosted by a UDA man who was identified as suspect 4 in the sectarian attack on Sean Graham’s bookmakers that claimed the lives of five people, the youngest just 15 years old

Irish far-right activists who travelled to Belfast at the weekend for an anti-immigration protest were hosted by a loyalist who was arrested in connection with the murders of five Catholics in a sectarian attack. ➡️belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/politics/… belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/politics/…

Just found out that in the Swiss city of Basel, locals commute home from work by river. They just put their belongings in a dry bag, jump in and float downstream.

@Tipler1983 A nodding acquaintance with the history of Ireland, and a comparison of the experiences of RoI and NI, will refute this thesis pretty comprehensively.

I think there needs to be more discussion around how all the old colonies were better under the British Empire.

@Gust_2319 That scenario means at minimum a 3 party coalition, and a government that is crippled before it can do anything.

You know that "proportional past the post" proposal someone came up with a while back, as an alternative UK electoral system? For a number of reasons it would be a really bad system, but just for fun, here is what the 2024 UK election would look like with it.

@TeamUnion_UK I’m not sure that this endorsement from Ben “I voted for the Protocol” Habib merits anything other than derision and contempt. Why are you shilling for this shyster? Have you no self-respect?

@Redeyes1878 @GRobinsonDUP UK isn’t “forced” to do anything; the NI Protocol is a UK ask. It constantly amazes me what a low regard brexiters have for the UK. They see it as a toddler state, incapable of being seen as responsible for anything it does. They thing grown-up countries should have stopped it.

@LeeDavidEvansUK A relevant drum would be: what is the sitting record of these peers? How often to they speak? Vote? Impossible to assess impact of removing them without this.

... and the list goes on. I can see no good reason why them being, shall we say, a bit long in the tooth should disqualify them from sitting in the Lords - nor why their age means their experience or expertise is any less valuable or relevant. Labour should think again. /ENDS

3,671 years. That’s the combined Lords experience of life peers over the age of 80. So, if Labour goes ahead with their plan to remove them, who exactly will they be kicking out? A thread. 🧵

When I modeled the second round of the French elections based on the result of the first round by assuming that voters would behave as in the second round of 2022, I forecast ~275 seats for the RN and its allies. In the end, it looks as though it will end up with 130 to 150 seats, which suggests that, because unlike in 2022 a RN majority was a realistic prospect, non-RN voters mobilized en masse to beat the RN.
