Most American rightoids who are general elite-class (very broadly speaking, say upper-middle class professional, or prosperous small business, and wealthier) are like this. The social conservatism and populism are faked, scams to create a mass constituency for tacked-on unpopular libertarian economics and/or liberal imperialism, and if you interact with them on the personal level and get to know them a little too well you'll find that they're drug users, or into shit like wife swapping, or cross-dressers, or patrons of transsexual prostitutes (this one is alarmingly common), or whatever.

@MrLeadslinger I wouldn’t bother with it, you get the adaptive cruise control without it and that alone takes 90% of the stress of driving on the highway.

@DGPsalm3 @megbasham They ignored the plain text of the Constitution and spent most of the time talking about the English common law basis for what was written.

@megbasham Then unfortunately we need to amend the Constitution. The Supreme Court shouldn’t be the punching bag for interpreting the plain text of an amendment that leads to undesirable results.

I don’t know what the Supreme Court will decide on the question of birthright citizenship. But I know this, if the courts continue to enforce practices that increase chaos, destruction, and division within the United States, like allowing 1.5 million Chinese nationals to vote because they happened to be born in an American hospital, people will very soon stop respecting the courts. And then things will really get dangerous.

@SydneyLWatson You can’t blame him. That’s a really good paycheck that could set him up for life. If you’re a struggling actor you would be insane not to take it. Blame the people that made a deliberate casting choice.

@JackPosobiec @seanmdav The justices spent more time arguing the English common law basis for those words than the words themselves. As far as I’m concerned, what made it into the final version, i.e. the Constitution, is all that matters.

How is this even a serious conversation? The idea that ANYONE can fly from ANYWHERE into America, have a baby, then fly back with citizenship is unserious. And yet, that’s exactly what is happening. Birthright citizenship should be rejected by SCOTUS immediately.
