oh you know *those* cocktail bars that are pushing out Toronto culture in order to bring in “elevated” (also read as gentrified) experiences that don’t reflect Toronto the culture, nor the people.
Belly Bones@bellybybelly
@_Berma What do you mean by “those”

For the people thinking I can’t do full range of motion.

Cleanest pull-up you’ll see on the timeline today. Quote me if I’m wrong😑

@fujandrist I ran into jay on the subway yesterday as I was getting off. We hit each other with the smile and nod and just like that he was gone.

If you don’t understand, Juventus paid over 3m for his loan from Leipzig, and then agreed to a clause that if Juventus finishes in top 10, the buy option will be activated.
In what world will Juventus not finish in top 10?
Whoever negotiated this deal on behalf of Juventus has really got poor negotiation skills (or maybe they were cornered, who knows?).
Juventus have to pay over 40m for him now, but they don’t want him, so they have to sell him, and they’ll sell him lower than that, because his market value has also gone down.
Bro has barely played this season, scrap minutes here and there, and he’s only scored 2 goals thereabouts.
What a loss.

🚨⚪️⚫️ The obligation to buy for Lois Openda at Juventus has been authomatically activated. €46m package deal for RB Leipzig between loan fee and permanent transfer, plus salary coverage. Juve will still try to find an exit solution for Openda this summer.

@Mikayla4976 @tobyasky @Danny_Okechukwu You think either of those teams will spend 50 mil and up for a single player?

@tobyasky @Danny_Okechukwu They could try scamming Coventry or Millwall who's coming to the prem

@theyoungestutke @ProfBZZZ My experience isn’t representative as a whole but I, and the majority of my friends also worked about 20-30 hours a week to be able to afford moving to a large metropolitan city for our uni. That definitely made certain courses a bit overwhelming
English

@UncleSMcsauce @ProfBZZZ Some classes are more reading heavy than others and some types of reading require more active engagement than others. I was a liberal arts major at a liberal arts school, even my STEM courses came with a lot of reading and writing, but it never felt impossible
English

A student today at my elite university admitted to me today that she took a class so she could work on reading for more than 20 minutes at a time. She can't read. She mainly skims and summarizes, she says and still gets A's.
This student is, by professional standards, illiterate. Gonna have high GPA when she graduates.
This conversation was had after 6 of 22 students dropped my course because the maximum reading per week in one week was over 100 pages.
What people aren't grasping is that this is literally *dangerous*. These people are going to be come doctors, engineers, etc. They are - by any metric - vastly less capable than prior generations. These effects are cumulative over a lifetime.
This grade inflation is part of the problem, but not even close to the entirety. And the problem obviously starts in K-12.
Students don't know history because, you can't actually become historically literate on the advice of 'never assign more than 30 pages a week'. You can't develop any of the skills that came with literacy. This is, quite honestly, a civilizational catastrophe.

79% of grades at Yale are A-range. Graduating summa cum laude requires a record high GPA OF 3.98.
English

@theyoungestutke @ProfBZZZ Being a history and political science major at my university it was kind of a given that every course would be heavy reading and writing. I averaged usually 50-100 pages per class per week but also anywhere between 30-60 pages of essay writing throughout the course.
English

@UncleSMcsauce @ProfBZZZ At my institution they just recommended not taking more than two reading-heavy courses at a time, so you would plan for that ahead of time. It was a lot of reading, sure, they definitely had us reading more than 100 pages a week per class, but it was very doable
English

@donaldcclarke @ProfBZZZ I understand your perspective as an academic but there are so many nuances to the student experience. Many students aren’t fortunate enough to only worry about school 100%.
English

@donaldcclarke @ProfBZZZ Are you factoring in time spent in class and assignments? I also usually had closer to 6 classes at a time. And if your university worked like mine, half year classes are even more dense workload wise. I also worked 30 hours a week to afford moving away for school.
English

@ProfBZZZ I think there you are right to a certain degree, younger generations definitely have issues with attention span but when I was in university it was the same, reading 50-100 pages per class felt daunting and now I read all day for work and for leisure afterwards.
English

@UncleSMcsauce Look, it could be. I hope so. It’s just I am hearing stuff like this from many people. And, the responses here suggest it isn’t totally just my experience. I must say, I’ve been concerned about stuff I hear… that’s all.
English

@nerdnecksteve @unnsr002 @Woll4Vezina @gregkennedy9 If that’s the case then yah I agree, I guess the original tweet reads to me like he was realizing it was USD converted.
English

@UncleSMcsauce @unnsr002 @Woll4Vezina @gregkennedy9 The “dugout deals” are niche at the rogers centre as they only cover two sections, so they shouldn’t be used to reflect stadium pricing. I’m not referring to the use of USD and I’m sure that wasn’t his main point.
English

I’ve been to 150 jays games lifetime, pls let me know where this $4.56 beer is.

If the price of beer has changed at your favorite MLB ballpark ... let us know 🍺
English

@nerdnecksteve @unnsr002 @Woll4Vezina @gregkennedy9 Why would a US based company make a graphic with everything in USD except the jays prices and not specify?
English

Doesn’t it suck now that you can’t put a small cool piece of worldbuilding that does a lot more with less and people are so incapable of just accepting it without begging for you to make sequels and spinoffs ad nauseum
𝚃𝙷𝙺@Thehorrorkid
The Choctaw Vampire Hunters from Sinners deserve a prequel/spin off

@KidayaG @xxx_kingahmed @MicahNieman @HazelAppleyard That’s where you draw the line of believability for this hypothetical?
English

@jljohnson97 @Lilyrus68172845 @RaghavT_ @iamMelsmith I’m aware, the point still stands that the amount of producers on an album are usually significantly higher than those on a film. Look at the officially listed production team of bad bunny’s winning album last year vs the team listed for OBAA this year.
English

@UncleSMcsauce @Lilyrus68172845 @RaghavT_ @iamMelsmith A producer doesn’t automatically get awarded for their contribution. The rules have a threshold on the minimum amount they need to contribute, from my research usually 20%
English

I love that Oscar winners get to leave WITH their award.
Kollege Kidd@KollegeKidd
“Sinners” actor Michael B. Jordan couldn’t contain his excitement after watching his Oscar get engraved with his name 🏆
English

@jljohnson97 @Lilyrus68172845 @RaghavT_ @iamMelsmith Well when you take into account the amount of producers on a single album that wins a Grammy, that could be anywhere from single to double digit physical awards that need to be engraved and sent out.
English

@Lilyrus68172845 @RaghavT_ @iamMelsmith According to a quick search, the Grammys give out ~95 awards annually whereas the Oscars give out ~23. So yes more but not anywhere near thousands
English

@Scoochie12 @Boymotives @mufcMPB Maybe that’s what he meant but that’s not at all what he wrote. “Looking for Casemiro’s replacement” and “the midfielder signing” are both singular.
English

@Boymotives @mufcMPB Are you dumb??? He meant the whole midfield not just casemiro
English

🚨 Manchester United are moving in the transfer market to look for Casemiro’s replacement and estimate that the budget for the midfielder signing this summer will be €200m.
There are 3 names at the TOP of United’s list: Bruno Guimarães, Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson. Adam Wharton and João Gomes are the alternatives.
