@Electroversenet Umm…there was a war. Without the wartime surge in gas prices, Germany’s well planned switch to renewables would have gone fine.

Germany shut down its last nuclear power plants in 2023. That decision removed 4 GW of reliable, low-cost baseload electricity. The plants were operational, they were paid for. And worse still, there was no replacement capacity ready. Germany turned to intermittent wind and solar backed by gas, imports, and emergency coal restarts. The obvious consequences followed. Electricity prices surged, grid reliability weakened, and fossil fuel use actually increased. Chancellor Friedrich Merz has now admitted the shutdown was a strategic mistake, calling Germany's energy transition the most expensive in the world. A reckless bending to extreme green ideology traded reliability and prosperity for optics. Working nuclear plants were destroyed. And for what?

The IAEA has been informed by Ukraine that a fire broke out at the Dniprovska 750 kilovolt electrical substation today due to military activities. As a result, an operating nuclear power plant - South Ukraine - was partially disconnected from its off site power supplies at the request of the grid operator. Firefighters are currently deployed at the substation to suppress the fire. DG @RafaelMGrossi expresses deep concern about the incident and says such substations that are critical for nuclear safety must never be targeted. The IAEA will continue to monitor the situation closely.

@NRCgov Executive order 14300 is illegal. It forces the NRC to place “efficiency” over protection. It orders you to violate the purpose the NRC was created for. It allows new nuke plant designs to be approved without ANY safety analysis by the NRC, rubber stamping DOE and DOD decisions.

Great tour at Crane Clean Energy Center at Three Mile Island yesterday. The Crane restart project brings 835 megawatts of nuclear power back online, thousands of jobs to make it happen, and 600 permanent jobs for PA. The nuclear revival is underway and PA is playing its part.
