@NathieVR Really sad news. Lynx was one of the few pushing standalone MR forward with a genuinely unique approach. Losing independent hardware makers like this is a blow to the whole ecosystem — we need more competition, not less. Hope the team lands on their feet 🙏

The numbers really put things in perspective. Both Meta and Apple went big on spatial computing but the market just was not ready yet. The key question now is who will get the form factor and price point right to bring it mainstream. Lightweight, affordable XR glasses could change everything.

@SadlyItsBradley Apple clearly has people on the visionOS team who genuinely care about the developer experience. Good release notes make such a difference when you are building for a new platform. Shows they are investing in the ecosystem beyond just hardware.

@BenGeskin VR sim racing is one of those experiences that instantly sells people on the technology. Once you feel that sense of speed and depth in a headset, flat screens just can't compete. Great to see first timers having that reaction!

My younger brother came over to the studio to try VR sim racing 🏎️ He’s been racing on a simulator for a while, but this was his first time in VR, and he was impressed. “It’s a whole experience,” he said. Way more immersive than a flat screen. You actually feel like you’re inside the car, and the sense of speed hits completely different. He loved it.

The pivot from VR to smartphone only is a bold move. Dropping 3DGS import too makes it feel like Meta is stepping away from immersive experiences altogether. Curious to see if the mobile version can retain the same creative community that made Horizon interesting in the first place.

Really insightful take from someone who was actually inside Reality Labs. The disconnect between what builders wanted to create and what management prioritized is probably the biggest lesson here. The tech was never the problem, it was the vision for how people would actually use it.

As someone who worked at Reality Labs: the Metaverse had real legs but was obliterated by middle management completely out of touch with how young people actually use technology. I built a V1 tool that game developers genuinely needed, and the moment it was done, it got shipped to a team in London (to die), and I was reassigned to a "higher-priority project" that zero developers asked for. Multiply that by every team, and you'll understand why this never took off yet cost 80 billion.

Shutting down Hyperspace captures so quickly after launch is really frustrating for creators who invested time into it. Meta keeps pivoting faster than the community can keep up. Would love to connect, we are building in the VR space too and always looking to chat with fellow creators!

Sad to see Horizon Worlds leaving Quest headsets. It was one of the first social VR platforms we tried. As Horizon will still be available on mobile, we are launching lightweight VR glasses this summer that connect to your phone, so you will still be able to enjoy Horizon and other mobile VR experiences in a fully immersive way.

Horizon Worlds is officially being discontinued on Meta Quest headsets. You will no longer be able to access Horizon Worlds at all on the headset and unfortunately Hyperspace co-op rooms are going away as well which is a real travesty. This is both exciting and sad honestly. Sad for those who spent so much time building worlds. Exciting to see Meta continues its streamlining of the Quest platform towards VR gaming.

The transition from bulky goggles to sleek sunglasses form factor is the key to mass adoption. Once VR headsets become something you actually want to wear outside, everything changes. Pancake optics and split compute architectures are making this possible faster than most people realize.
