For all the ugliness we’ve seen, the City admin is full of many intelligent, ethical, dedicated public servants who’ve had to do their jobs for months under darkening clouds. Despite this, this city will still run tmw because of them. This is why public service is difficult and noble. And why it’s called “service.”

Mayor of Freetown and Co-Chair of C40 Cities, @yakisawyerr, on the outcome of #COP29: "The COP29 outcome doesn't go far enough for cities in the developing world, who are in desperate need of financial support to protect their residents from the climate crisis. For millions of people this is already a matter of life and death and the odds just got even worse. "We need developed nations to show accountability for the climate emergency they have created and provide significant financial support to those in the developing world who are suffering as a result. They have failed to do so. "We have no more time for failure. It’s absolutely clear that international climate negotiations need a fresh approach and a new lease of life. Working together through groups like C40 Cities, mayors are showing they can go further and faster on climate action than national governments alone. We want to bring this knowledge and expertise to future COPs and C40 is already working to do so at COP30 in Brazil."
