THE TRUTH ABOUT NYC BUSES THAT THE CORRUPT, INEFFICIENT, AND MISMANAGED MTA WILL NOT TELL YOU
Let’s look at the numbers; not opinions.
2019 (Trailing performance):
• ~99% of scheduled buses actually ran
• ~74% of riders arrived within 5 minutes of schedule
• Bus speeds ~8.1 mph
2026:
• Only ~88–89% of scheduled buses run
• Only ~58–60% of riders arrive on time
• Bus speeds ~8.0 mph (basically unchanged)
• Nearly 3,000 fewer employees than budgeted
• Fare revenue below projections
So after 7 years, bus lanes, bus cameras, bus redesigns, congestion taxation, and billions in spending…
• Buses are not faster
• Buses are less reliable
• Fewer buses show up
• The system is understaffed
• Revenue is missing targets
In 2019, the problem was buses were slow.
In 2026, buses are still slow but now they also don’t show up and don’t run on time.
If a private company delivered 10–12% less service than scheduled and only got customers to their destination on time 58% of the time, it would be considered operational failure.
But somehow when the MTA does it, it’s called “progress.”
The bus system isn’t improving; it’s deteriorating.
And the people who rely on buses the most?
• Outer borough residents
• Seniors
• Working-class New Yorkers
