@CJWajzer Please excuse this approach from a complete stranger. I think my great-grandfather, Lipman Leopold Wajzer, moved from Poland to Coogee NSW in 1932. I just wonder if you might be a descendant of his? Stephen Venables

this seems to have appealed to many however the golfing lobby will doubtless stop any such sensible contribution for housing from their 1,256 sq km of England whereas all the allotments in total occupy a small fraction of that yet often considered fair game
Bob Flowerdew@FlowerdewBob

may I suggest instead of taking allotments away at huge loss to a large number of people that the same area could be nibbled off golf clubs to the detriment of far fewer folk #AllotmentLands @AngelaRayner @Keir_Starmer

Iranians in the Netherlands march in support of Israel and call for the destruction of the Islamic regime. Not a single woman in hijab or burqa, no one is masked, and no violence. These are real refugees who fled a brutal Islamist dictatorship. Unlike fake refugees, they actually want to go back to their homeland!

Mountaineer Sirbaz Khan made history this week by successfully summiting Mount Kangchenjunga in Nepal without supplemental oxygen. He is now the first Pakistani to climb all 14 of the world’s highest peaks—known as eight-thousanders—without oxygen support. Mawlana Hazar Imam sent a letter of congratulations and admiration for the feat: “Sirbaz’s achievement is truly remarkable;” read Hazar Imam’s letter, “the planning and preparation that must have gone into this endeavour, as well as the physical and mental courage required to succeed, are extraordinary and worthy of the greatest admiration.” “Sirbaz has brought prestige and honour to himself and his family, to the Jamat of Pakistan and to the Jamat worldwide. His triumphs will undoubtedly be a source of inspiration—well beyond the field of mountaineering—to Ismaili youth around the world. I convey my warmest congratulations to Sirbaz and his family.” “The amount of talent within the community is very exciting,” Hazar Imam added. Read more here: the.ismaili/news/mawlana-h…

Thank you @tom_mckinney @BBCRadio3 for choosing snipe for breakfast. That eerie whirring takes me straight to summer nights on the isle of Mingulay.

Lovely to hear the eider duck. Re avian regional accents, our Edinburgh crows definitely sound different from their English cousins. Good luck with your new job.

Hervé Barmasse Gran Sasso d’Italia: 67km, 7,200m of elevation gain, moving autonomously across ridges and faces, using crampons and skis to complete the first enchainment and the first full traverse of all the main peaks of this massif—alone and in winter. "In my approach to mountaineering, there is another rule: 'subtract to gain'. In fact, up until the night before, I had done no research and knew almost nothing about what I was about to undertake. But I had an idea, and I had a dream—and that was enough. My alpinism, above all, must move me, must give me the chance to live new experiences. And this one will forever hold a special place." 📷 @ alebeltrame @ babuz_parisse

Wordle in two today. Yesterday’s word was GREED. Today’s is in similar vein. Is the New York Times providing a discreet commentary?

BREAKING: Massive anti-Trump protest taking place outside the US Capitol building. I certainly don’t remember Americans protesting Biden’s presidency like this. Crowd size matters, right?

I don’t want to connect my coffee machine to the wifi network. I don’t want to share the file with OneDrive. I don’t want to download an app to check my car’s fluid levels. I don’t want to scan a QR code to view the restaurant menu. I don’t want to let Google know my location before showing me the search results. I don’t want to include a Teams link on the calendar invite. I don’t want to pay 50 different monthly subscription fees for all my software. I don’t want to upgrade to TurboTax platinum plus audit protection. I don’t want to install the Webex plugin to join the meeting. I don’t want to share my car’s braking data with the actuaries at State Farm. I don’t want to text with your AI chatbot. I don’t want to download the Instagram app to look at your picture. I don’t want to type in my email address to view the content on your company’s website. I don’t want text messages with promo codes. I don’t want to leave your company a five-star Google review in exchange for the chance to win a $20 Starbucks gift card. I don’t want to join your exclusive community in the metaverse. I don’t want AI to help me write my comments on LinkedIn. I don’t even want to be on LinkedIn in the first place. I just want to pay for a product one time (and only one time), know that it’s going to work flawlessly, press 0 to speak to an operator if I need help, and otherwise be left alone and treated with some small measure of human dignity, if that’s not too much to ask anymore.

Still no refund from @123reg for the £100 paid for my domain during their chaotic takeover from @tsoHostHelp . They said they would contact me by email re ticket REG-1054688. Not a squeak out of them in the last ten days. My website remains blocked. @123regHelp
