Greed for power is crazy. Because, why is a former Senate president running for governor? Especially someone who has already spent 27 years (8 as reps, 19 as Senator) in the NASS?

Today, I was at the Fanti Carnival at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Island and it was a lively showcase of culture, with each group bringing its own colours, choreography and strong sense of identity. It was especially meaningful to see historic communities like Campos, Lafiaji, Okoo-Faji, Okepopo, Olowogbowo, Epetedo, and Isale-Eko come together, making the day even more memorable. From the coordinated parades to the music, dance, and vibrant displays by our young people, as well as the energy of the crowd, it was a rich blend of culture and creativity. Today reflects an important part of our heritage that we must continue to preserve and celebrate. We remain committed to supporting cultural platforms that strengthen identity and bring our people together.

The Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge is designed to ease movement across one of Lagos’ busiest corridors. For years, areas like Ojota, Maryland, Opebi and Allen have struggled with heavy traffic, largely because there was no direct connection between them. Stretching about 5.04 km, this project combines elevated bridge sections with connecting roads to create a more direct route for commuters. It also includes space for pedestrians and cyclists. This project was first conceived during HE President Bola Tinubu’s time as governor and was later revived and completed by our administration. In many ways, it reflects long-term planning finally coming to life. The real impact will be felt in daily commuting. Shorter travel times, less congestion on roads like Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, and more predictable journeys for both individuals and businesses.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu@jidesanwoolu

LASG officials went on a tour to inspect the progress of work on the Opebi-Mende-Ojota Link bridge and other arterial roads connecting it. The bridge was designed to address major traffic issues and provide alternative routes for motorists traveling from Toyin, Allen, Opebi to Ojota. Once finished, it will benefit those commuting from Maryland to Ikeja and surrounding areas. The team also visited other strategic ongoing projects such as the construction of Abiola-Onijemo link Road with bridge, Ikeja Urban Regeneration Project, Arowojobe Link Bridge and Approach Road at Maryland, and Agidi Demurin and Church Street Network in Kosofe Local Government Area. Despite the weather challenges, contractors are working diligently to meet project deadlines. The completion percentages of some projects are as follows: Arowojobe Link Bridge and Road at seventy-seven percent, St Finbarrs Road at seventy percent, Abiola-Onijemo Link Road with Bridge at eighty percent, Ikeja GRA regeneration project at eighty-nine percent, and Opebi-Mende Link Bridge and Roads at eighty-five percent. These projects reflect our commitment to delivering top-notch infrastructure and driving economic growth for the benefit of all residents.

STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE PRESIDENT TINUBU APPROVES N3.3 TRILLION PAYMENT PLAN TO RESTORE RELIABLE ELECTRICITY President Bola Tinubu has approved the payment plan to finally settle the outstanding debts under the Presidential Power Sector Financial Reforms Programme. The debt repayment plan followed the final review of the legacy debts that have beset the power sector for more than a decade. The long-standing debts accumulated between February 2015 and March 2025. Following verification, ₦3.3 trillion has been agreed as a full and final settlement, ensuring a fair and transparent resolution. Implementation has begun, with 15 power plants signing settlement agreements totalling ₦2.3 trillion. The Federal Government has already raised ₦501 billion to fund these payments. Out of the amount, N223 billion has been disbursed, with further payments underway. What this means for Nigerians: With payments reaching the power value chain, generation will be more stable. With power plants supported, electricity reliability will improve. And as the sector stabilises, more investment, more jobs, and better service will follow. “This programme is not just about settling legacy debts. It is about restoring confidence across the power sector — ensuring gas suppliers are paid, power plants can keep running, and the system begins to work more reliably," explained Olu Arowolo-Verheijen, Special Adviser on Energy to President Tinubu. “It is part of a broader set of reforms already underway — including better metering and service-based tariffs that link what you pay to the quality of electricity you receive. “The government is also prioritising power supply to businesses, industries, and small enterprises — because reliable electricity is critical to creating jobs, supporting livelihoods, and growing the economy. “The goal is simple: more reliable power for homes, stronger support for businesses, and a system that works better for all Nigerians," she added. President Tinubu has commended all stakeholders who supported efforts to resolve the legacy issues in the power sector. He has also confirmed that the next phase (Series II) will begin this quarter. APC National Chairman Visits Victims of Angwan Rukuba Attack at Jos University Teaching Hospital Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday paid a solemn visit to victims of the recent Angwan Rukuba attack who are receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH). Accompanied by his wife, Dr. Martina Yilwatda, the APC chief expressed deep compassion and solidarity with the injured, sharing in their pain while reaffirming the nation’s collective duty to protect every Nigerian life. Describing the attack as “painful, barbaric, and unacceptable,” Prof. Yilwatda said it represented a direct assault on shared humanity that must never be allowed to become “another normal story.” He assured the victims and their families of the Federal Government’s firm resolve, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to safeguard lives and bring an end to the senseless killings. The APC National Chairman also commiserated with families who lost loved ones in the incident and offered prayers for strength and comfort during this difficult period. Prof. Yilwatda commended the management and staff of JUTH for their swift and professional response in saving lives. In a statement, he called on leaders, communities, and citizens to act with urgency, unity, and purpose, declaring: “This tragedy must awaken all of us, Plateau must not bleed again.”
