@BillAckman While the meritocracy may determine the size of each individual’s boat in a form of success, it also drives progress, the tide that lifts all boats.

@balajis It helps to solve a difficult information compression issue. 👇 “I didn’t have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead.”

AI is a shortcut. So it’s useful. But it’s lazy. So it speeds execution. But it hides complexity. So you want to use it. But definitely not overuse it. So the user of AI often loves it. But the reader of AI often hates it.

it’s not political and should not be partisan to ask “where did all the money go?” California’s functional bankruptcy threatens the nation and should be a front-and-center state and national discussion. ignore the bs. this is what matters.
Molly O’Shea@MollySOShea

BREAKING: David @friedberg says "California is functionally bankrupt" "People don't realize how screwed California is, & I worry that if California falls, so does the union. "$250 billion to $1 trillion short." "This is because for California to get rescued would be a big cost to red states, & I think it creates in the years ahead a lot of tension." "California's functional bankruptcy is a major risk to the country. & I think we need to figure out what we can change to fix it." How we got here: "California has a public pension system, & that public pension system retirees have paid into it & they get some benefits out, & the amount that they're owed back out is somewhere between $250 billion - $1 trillion dollars more than has been paid in. $250 billion to $1 trillion short. If it was the federal government, it would be like, okay, we'll just print more money. California doesn't have the ability to print money, so California has to pay this out, and you can't restructure retirement benefits. There is a Supreme Court case in California that said that once an employee has been offered retirement benefits, even if they're currently an employee, you can never restructure their retirement benefits. It has to stay forever, and the state cannot declare bankruptcy. There's no way for the state to functionally declare bankruptcy. There's no law to allow it. No state has ever declared bankruptcy, and the retirement benefits sit senior to the bonds in California. So you have to pay out the retirement benefits before you pay out all the bond holders that have loaned California the money that they use to run all their programs and services." @j0sephf @Clint_Davey1 I aim high but forever fall short. If only I had an attached shell casing like this to propel me all the way.

Anytime my theoretical physics colleagues want to admit to the abysmal state of the field (DEI, Q. Gravity, Stagnation, Ethics issues, abuse, etc.), I’m prepared to use every channel to help in both the U.S. & UK. It’s really important that we don’t lose everything achieved.

“…theoretical physics grants will be almost 70 per cent lower from October 2026” These are catastrophic cuts that will end the careers of many UK researchers and dismantle theory groups in several UK Universities researchprofessionalnews.com/rr-news-uk-res…

BRUTAL: Stephen A. Smith just told Democrats to “SHUT UP” and stop “bitching” about voter ID. “You should have a damn ID [to vote]. You need an ID for every damn thing else.” “And to the progressive left, shut the hell up!” “You got a mayor in New York City that required TWO IDs for you to shovel snow.” “You ain’t in no position to be bitching about how [Trump] wants IDs and the GOP wants IDs for votes. Shut up! Nobody wants to hear that.”
