@Vidarreal3

I spent 40 years creating a hub for nutrition and wellness in schools and communities to improve student’s health by collaborating with allied organizations.

In the name of fighting "DEI," Trump's spending freeze brought us to the brink of disaster yesterday. He's tapping into culture wars while his billionaire buddies loot the government and gut programs that help millions. His "war on woke" is a war on the American people.

On the other tier are the clients I represented as a public defender in Texas - like the seventeen year old boy who was held on felony probation for taking some candy from his school's concession stand. Our system of justice is not just. The scales are not equal.

There is a two-tiered system of justice in this country, and Donald Trump lives on the tier where he gets to walk into the White House without spending a single day in jail or being put on probation after being convicted of 34 felonies. cnn.com/politics/live-…

@DrBradJohnson It can be accomplished, but real food must be made a priority in schools. It’s been hard to do because of lobbyists on behalf of food manufacturers. HPF should NOT be allowed in schools just like other harmful substances are not allowed in schools.

American schools waste approximately 530,000 tons of food annually — about 39 pounds of food waste and 29 cartons of milk per student per year, which costs 1. 7 billion a yr. What if we fed them something they will actually eat, and provide meals for the students since they are required by law to be at school. A hungry child cant learn, And add a little more physical activity and recess so we can feed them real food.

Attended listening session as @FarmtoSchool rep, Envisioning the Future for Children Together, held in DC by Kellogg Foundation. I felt that this event was my future after spending over 3 decades advocating for healthier meals w/out the support of many health allied orgs.

Happy Father’s Day. One of hardest and kindest man I know. I was told by many that he could do the work of 2 or more men. He is also the kindest man I know. Still works at 85 helping elderly with plumbing needs, often not charging them or accepts little if they insist.

@EdKrassen The amount of sugar in products offered in schools must be addressed. Food manufacturers and other proponents of highly processed foods will say it’s too difficult and kids will not eat or drink healthier choices. None of it is true. I know. I’m a former school food director.

The USDA is considering limiting certain foods and drinks like chocolate milk in schools in order to “reduce children’s risk of chronic disease.” These sugar-laden drinks would only be available in high school if this proposal is accepted.. Many people on both the left and the right are not happy with this suggestion. They believe that their kids should have the right do drink chocolate milk even if it could potentially cause chronic diseases in certain children. Personally I don’t agree with it. However, I find it very hypocritical. Those on the right who are strongly against this also are, in some cases, OK with school libraries prohibiting books like “And Tango Makes Three” and “Anne Frank’s Diary: The Graphic Adaptation." Those on the left who are strongly opposed to removing books from schools, and in some cases are against removing books like “Gender Queer” which show questionable “pornographic-like" illustrations, are completely for banning chocolate milk. Why can’t we all just find a happy medium? Why does everything needs to be so binary? Are we all hypocrites to some degree? If parents don't want their kids to drink chocolate milk, then the parents should request they don't drink it. If parents don't want their kids reading books about 2-male penguins raising a baby together, then they should request their kids don't access that book.
