@JonhD523532 @AncientPathsYT @UtdMaI Pele didn't win a Champion's League, neither did Maradona. Basing a European national team players better than a South American teams players on their participation in a European competition seems a lopsided argument no?

@VillasHerc @AncientPathsYT @UtdMaI 11 Players from the 22 France team won the Champions League... A rise from 2018 team that had 7..... 22 Argentina team? Only 3 including Messi.... Argentina barely got by in 2022, needed 3 goals to qualify in the final qualifying games, Messi scored a hat trick..

So we’re pretending 6 World Cups to reach 16 goals is more impressive than Kylian Mbappé getting 14 in just 2? Interesting. Remove penalties and this debate becomes even more uncomfortable for certain fanbases.
Fabrizio Romano@FabrizioRomano

🚨 OFFICIAL: Lionel Messi, TOP SCORER EVER in World Cup history joint with Miro Klose. 🎞️⭐️ 16 goals at the World Cup. 💥🇦🇷 In one night, on 6th World Cup debut game at 38, Messi surpasses Mbappé (14), Müller (14) and Ronaldo Nazario (15).

@UtdMaI Mbappe has been on the world's most talented team all three times. Messi was carrying a trash team that wouldn't have even qualified without him in 3 of those 5 world cups.

@GarySmithJnr @Sjopinion10 Spurs spent 25 years with the team being massively underfunded, so Levy could build a property investment company. 2 trophies in all that time. All the best players sold. Always jam tomorrow. PSR is not stopping any other club doing similar. It's just that you all want jam today.

@HotspurLane I'd argue having Post Malone, boxing events, etc at your stadium/ revenue streams that in no way relate to football don't make you a "bigger club" at all.

Villa fans: “it’s so unfair Spurs finished 17th twice in a row but can spend more money than us!” Maybe you should look at this… #THFC have made a total of £850M MORE than Aston Villa, Since 2020. Spurs have a unique stadium that generates hundreds of millions a year. To add to that, Spurs are in a good position with FFP and PSR so we can spend a lot. Us finishing 17th consecutively is irrelevant to how much we could theoretically spend. Spurs generate considerably much more than Aston Villa simply because we are a bigger club.

@HotspurLane Villa's problem isn't with Spurs, it's both the drawbridge being pulled up on major investment and performance in and of itself not being sustainable practically killing actual competition.

Aston Villa fans moaning about about PSR and how unfair it is that #THFC could spend more than them this summer despite finishing 17th, yet they’re the reason we survived… You should’ve relegated us when you had the chance. 👍

@fcbtray Villa Park has stood since 1897, I'll take tradition and history over the twinkly lights of a business dome.

It’s crazy how none of these top 10 England stadiums are better than the NRG stadium in Texas, which is an average stadium in America

@bardsleyta I'm not debating whether there were great players in the England team but as good a representative they were of the PL,on an international level there is a next level they were not at.

@bardsleyta France had Henry, Viera, Makelele, Thurman, Gallas, Ribery... They're stars in their own right Zidane just eclipsed most players of the time. Italy literally had the Ballon d'Or winner for the year in their defence (Cannavaro)

Watching the World Cups back to back on the iPlayer WC channel and can't believe how many times I got duped into believing we could win "How did we not win it that year!?" Because there are a good 4 nations with vastly superior players and systems 🤣

@VillasHerc Once it starts and you win your first game everyone loses their minds particularly the press and pundits (Rio for example). The other nations of the UK then hear it on repeat for 3 weeks, it's the same script every time.

@bardsleyta They were streets ahead in the international format, they have a uniform, national identity of football rather than the cosmopolitan hodge podge of the PL. I assume you mean 2006, bear in mind in the final you had Zidane, Totti, Makelele, Viera, Gattuso, Pirlo, etc in midfield

@VillasHerc The other nations weren't vastly superior. The system is on the manager for not putting players in their best positions or having a balanced team. Had we had a midfield 3 of Carrick, Hargreaves & one of Gerrard or Lampard, it would be way more balanced.

@Iamkloot36 @TheFootballFeed I'd argue the game hasn't changed immensely since Neville retired (in 2011) for reference Kane, Maguire and Mo Salah debuted that year.

@TheFootballFeed The male pundits used such as Neville, Carragher, hoddle etc didnt play the game to the current level either. The game has evolved so much since they played and they just havent kept up with tactical advancements and often make poorly informed comments.

@charlieeady3 For all the derision Southgate gets for "not winning anything" I think he did a good job of "managing" and progressing the team in tournaments, I really hope we're not in for a revert to the past with Tuchel.

@charlieeady3 I'm sure egos play a part, I think it just boils down to us succumbing to a national psychosis where our insular perspective of football makes us immediately assume we're the best when generally we are a level below the winners and often the semifinalists.

@chrisstanley1 Like for all the trumpeting of England's golden generation, the Ballon d'Or winner for 2006 was Cannavaro (obv winning the WC contributed) 3 of the 10 players shortlisted played in the PL and none of them were English (Henry, Drogba & Lehman)

@chrisstanley1 I think this is one of the major issues, the Premier League holds more reverence than the national scene it being the best means we assume it's top players are the best in the World when actually more often than not the upper echelon never play for an English team.
