Iran's 2/28 was comparable to 9/11. Worse in the targeted nature of it all.
There are no conditions to excuse America's refusal to distinguish between combtants & non-combatants.
Nor are there any conditions to call such an act, explicitly intended to destroy the state & institute chaos, anything short of terrorism.
It does not matter if Iran is a "regime". This is not just international law -- Assassinations or the targeting of civilians is illegal under US law.
Illegitimate.
Lawless.
Barbaric.

I think rather easily, probably without much telegraphing beforehand, the Rs will just outflank them on Israel by being more willing to throw it under the bus to absolve America.
Meanwhile the Democrats will just tone-police them, call it bigoted & try to lump in all their bad policies to discredit them on a larger issue.
This all ends with another "lesser of two evils" situation. But potentially one where the Democrats become the pro-Israel party that still maintains it's funding & backers go along with it because they have a psuedo-theological belief that voting Democrat makes them morally superior people regardless of reality or what the party actually does.
