I will not stand for adverb slander. If used properly, they they double the degree of descriptive texture available to a single action. Advice to avoid them is aimed at young writers not yet in full command of their authorial voice.

I think science fiction is a good way to explore philosophical questions, because it allows you to construct hypothetical scenarios that make those questions more concrete.

To me almost every new soulslike falls flat, because it feels like the devs are focusing on the wrong things and that is extremely elaborate, ultra difficulty boss fights. Sure DS1 was sorta difficult, but to me it was more about the exploration. That's where it absolutely shone

@gregeganSF In theory, there was no reason the movie couldn't have executed a better character-focused drama, it just stumbled in that regard. In practice, the worldbuilding-heavy format of the Youtube videos worked a bit better.

I saw the movie “Backrooms” [not having seen the web series] and though the ideas and visuals were interesting at first, overall it felt very thin. Maybe the original form was a better fit, with an open-ended accretion of lore rather than expectations of a self-contained plot.

Thinking that quality of horror movie depends on its scariness is so wrong because if you watch horror movies for 15 years there are very few that can genuinely frighten you even among the absolute classics. There are many things to appreciate in a good horror movie.
