@RepMariaSalazar I live in Florida, I know many Haitians. They’re wonderful people. Know what their plan is? It’s to make money here in the US for a few years so they can to return to Haiti and retire. Not a single one of my Haitian friend are scared to move home. They’re here for the $$

From Haiti to Venezuela, we have to get this right. TPS exists for a reason, to protect people who cannot safely return home. I represent thousands in my district who would face persecution or jail if we send them back too soon. We cannot strip protections before conditions truly change. That’s why I’ll keep fighting to protect TPS and stand with those who depend on it.

Let me break this down simply: We have a greed problem. We can afford Medicare for All. We can afford to house every person sleeping on the street. We can afford to make public college tuition free and guarantee access to universal pre-k to every child in America. The money exists. It's just sitting in the bank accounts of billionaires who write blank checks to corrupt politicians to make sure it stays there. Tax the rich. Fund the people. That's it.

If you haven’t heard, and even if you have, Jimmy Kimmel said this about Markwayne Mullin, former Senator from Oklahoma, and our newest Secretary of Homeland Security: “We have a plumber now protecting us from terrorism.” Apparently, there has been some backlash. Plumbers were offended, obviously, as were parents of plumbers, spouses of plumbers, children of plumbers, and millions of people who have had a plumber show up when they needed one. Comedians were also offended, (the funny ones, anyway,) along with a surprising number of terrorists - especially those with access to hot and cold running water. However, in spite of the ensuing kerfuffle, @jimmykimmel doubled down. “I’m not upset that the head of Homeland Security was a plumber,” he said, “I’m upset that he isn’t still a plumber." He further elucidated by adding, "I wouldn't put a plumber in charge of Homeland Security for the same reason I wouldn't call a five-star general to pull a rat out of my toilet, OK? We all have our areas of expertise.” Being offended is always a choice, and I don’t choose to be offended by a joke, even one that comes at the expense of the skilled tradespeople my foundation tries to elevate. But I am a tad butt hurt by the suggestion that skilled workers should never evolve into something new, and that competence is somehow limited to one vocation. Obviously, expertise and skill are important. If I need a new kidney, I’d prefer a doctor do the surgery, not a late-night talk show host. But if the doctor in question used to host a talk show, why would I hold that against him? Ten years ago, during one of the presidential debates, @MarcoRubio answered a workforce-related question by arguing that America needed to get shop class back into high schools. He concluded by saying, “What our country needs are more welders and fewer philosophers.” A lot of people on this page commented that Rubio and I were singing from the same hymnal, but in fact, we weren’t. At least not entirely. Because I don’t think the current shortage of welders has anything to do with an overabundance of philosophers. In fact, I think it’s a mistake to promote one vocation at the expense of the other. What we really need in this country, are more welders who can talk intelligently about Aristotle, and more philosophers who can run an even bead. More Generals, in other words, who can fix their own toilets, and more plumbers who can hold a powerful government job. This is what Mullin did. He was a private citizen who mastered an essential skill and then turned that skill into a multi-million-dollar company that employed a lot of people and served a lot of customers. That gave him the freedom to do other things with his life, including a career in public service which got him into Congress, where he’s spent the last eleven years doing whatever Congressmen do. Now, he has a very consequential position in the Cabinet of the current administration. Is that not the embodiment of the American Dream? I get that Jimmy Kimmel might have a problem with Mullin’s politics, but what possible objection could he have about the trajectory of his career, or his desire to do more than one thing with his life? The only sensible thing to do in the wake of a moment this tone deaf, is remind America that the skills gap is wide, and getting wider. The shortage of skilled tradespeople is now headline news and closing it is nothing less than a matter of national security. This year, my foundation has set aside $10 million dollars to help train the next generation of plumbers, and lots of other essential workers. I'm talking about hundreds of thousands of AI-proof, six figure jobs that don't require a four-year degree, waiting to be filled. The money is currently available to anyone who wants to master a useful skill at mikeroweworks.org. Apply today. As for those of you genuinely offended by Kimmel's comments, consider expressing your disappointment with a modest donation to mikeroweWORKS. Our work ethic scholarship is making a real difference, and your money will be well spent, I promise. The donate button is big and red and hard to miss, at mikeroweworks.org I’d love to chat but I’ve gotta pull a rat out of my toilet…

Ok, I'm apparently not good at writing parables, because nearly everyone interpreted it wrong. I used a parable because I want to respect others' service records, especially when not all the facts are out yet. So let's pivot to a much more direct analogy. In 2016, career intelligence professionals, people who had genuinely spent their lives fighting America's enemies, became convinced that a foreign power had compromised the incoming president. They had data points. Real ones. Trump had business dealings in Moscow. He said nice things about Putin on camera. People in his orbit had meetings with Russian nationals. A dossier appeared with salacious claims. Each data point individually was... a data point. But they were looking for Russia. So they found Russia. Everywhere. They were so certain they were right that they leaked to the press. They used classification authority to spy on American citizens. They presented unverified opposition research to a FISA court as intelligence. Peter Strzok texted about "insurance policies." Andrew McCabe authorized leaks. They were experienced professionals who genuinely believed the republic was in danger. Their service records were real. Their concern was sincere. And they were wrong.

I'm a Smurf. I've been hired to run counter-intelligence operations at Smurf Village. My role is political; I've personally gone up against the evil wizard Gargamel. But once I'm on the inside, I discover that Smurf Village has a relationship with a goat-riding human boy called Peewit. Peewit isn't a Smurf. He's caused a lot of damage with his antics over the years. Why is he even here? I start digging. I pull up Papa Smurf's history with Peewit. Papa Smurf has been collaborating with this kid for years. Protecting him. Making excuses for him. Why? Peewit is reckless. Peewit makes messes. But Papa Smurf keeps letting him back in. The more I dig, the more Peewit I find. He's everywhere. In every file, behind every favor, connected to every mess. A picture forms in my head: if I'm looking for Peewit everywhere and I keep finding Peewit, the only logical conclusion is that Peewit is the one controlling Papa Smurf. Then a prominent Smurf gets assassinated. They say Gargamel's people did it. Case closed, move along. But I get access to the dead Smurf's private messages. And there's Peewit. Right there in the chats. The same Peewit I've been laser-focused on all year. Pressuring him. Making demands. I bring this to Papa Smurf and his inner circle. I bring it with alarm. Papa Smurf looks at me funny. And then — just like that — I'm kicked out of the investigation. No explanation. Just... out. This is the final proof that Peewit is controlling the Smurf Village. I know what I saw. I have to get the truth out there. So I do the unthinkable. I leak the information.

I have questions. Did they live longer as an illegal in the U.S. than they would’ve lived in the country they escaped from? Did they ambush law enforcement activity and get shot? Were they sick when they got here? Or did they get sick here? How much did their healthcare cost the U.S. tax payer for the to die here? This post is ambiguous and I need context.

One of the biggest problems with X: Your followers don’t see your content. That breaks the relationship between creators and audience. It makes it harder to build trust, friendships, and communities. This used to be a networking site. Now it’s driven by slop and algo chasing.

Context: Peewit is a side character in the Smurfs who is an ally but also has a knack for getting in trouble. Peewit doesn't control anything. This story is an allegory for how cognitive biases can overtake someone's mindset and turn normally rational thinkers into irrational thinkers.

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani
If you own a home with a basement, attic, or backyard, chances are you’ve thought about using it to earn a little extra income or as space for a loved one. We want to make it as easy (and affordable) as possible for you to do that. NYC recently legalized ADUs — but for too many New Yorkers, they’re still tied up in bureaucracy and expense. We're fixing that. Our new toolkit at nyc.gov/aduforyou includes preapproved building plans and a financing calculator so you can get right to building. If we want New York to remain a city for everyone, we have to make it easier for homeowners to stay here. ADU for You will do just that.

I’m concerned that allowing people to “dislike” will upset the positive and encouraging pro-social vibes that X has always enjoyed. What if this transforms X from the global forum of sophisticated discourse it is today into a place of mindless conflict?

A brain chip thinner than a human hair could soon connect the human brain to AI. MIT scientists say microscopic implants can be delivered through injections, traveling through the bloodstream until they reach the brain. Epidemiologist @NicHulscher warns that technology like this raises an unsettling possibility. It could theoretically be deployed without people even realizing it. At the same time, a new White House initiative on 6G openly discusses implantable technologies designed to connect the human brain to artificial intelligence. Now consider where all of this is heading… What exactly are they building? 🧵

WTF! - Welcome to Florida! 😳 This ain’t no JOKE! A growing population of Nile monitor lizards, large, aggressive reptiles originally from sub-Saharan Africa, has started showing up in parts of Florida, and experts say it’s something the state needs to take seriously. These lizards didn’t arrive here on their own. Many were brought through the exotic pet trade, and over time some escaped or were released into the wild. Now they’re establishing themselves in canals, neighborhoods, and wetlands across parts of the state. Nile monitors are far from your typical backyard reptile. Adults can grow over six feet long, weigh more than 20 pounds, and are excellent swimmers and climbers. They’re quick, defensive animals that can cause serious injuries with sharp teeth, powerful tails, and strong claws. Even smaller bites can become dangerous because bacteria in their saliva may lead to infections. Wildlife officials say people should never try to approach or capture them. Instead, sightings should be reported so trained professionals can respond safely. Beyond the danger to people, the species also threatens Florida’s native wildlife. As strict carnivores, they prey on birds, small mammals, and even protected animals like gopher tortoises. The biggest concern is how quickly the population could grow. A single female can lay dozens of eggs at once, allowing numbers to expand rapidly if left unchecked. Because of that, agencies like the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission encourage residents to report sightings quickly so populations can be controlled before they spread further. Florida has already faced major challenges from invasive species, and officials hope early action can prevent Nile monitors from becoming the next long term problem. - Discover Florida
