@sean_muldowney SM you are conflating how God designed us with how the Holy Spirit works within us. We all love our children even the unsaved because that is how God designed us. That is Pastor Josh’s point.

This one thing explains way more in our culture politically, culturally, and ecclesiologically (“with regard to the church”) than anyone probably wants to admit: Until a man (in particular) has kids, he isn’t as emotionally tied to the future of society at a visceral level. When a man has kids, it does something to his energy and produces a desperation to use his strength to ensure a better societal and ecclesiological future for his children and grandchildren to inherit.

@elonmusk Yes. Fundamentally it’s the difference between wisdom and book knowledge. Life hack: the Bible is the one book that will give you wisdom.

Beware the empathy exploit. Empathy is good and right when thought through (deep), but can be deadly to civilization when simply stimulus-response (shallow). For example, releasing a repeat violent offender may feel good at first (shallow empathy for the criminal), but it is wrong to do so when that person will go on to hurt or murder innocent victims, as there should be deep empathy for future victims.

@ozofinfo @alphafox Some separation can still save you. But yes this kid needs to jump from bridges until he learns how to pack BASE rig.

@Walker47030Jim @alphafox The issue was the twist. You are cooked if your chute flips you facing the slab. That line seemed sketchy already where the first plateau was. Not enough time to get more separation from the wall before deploy in case of a twist.

@howertonjosh @lukedsimmons True. David the sweet psalmist of Israel showed us God appreciates the emotional connection music brings to worship.

IMO depends how it's done and the style of the preacher. Sometimes, for sure you are right. But there's a reason that hymn writers put music behind the lyrics and movie producers put scores behind the dialogue: God created people so that music can do "emotional stewardship" (an old Bob Kauflin term, I think!) and help them feel what they should feel in response to the truth being presented to them.

Unpopular opinion 😬 Finishing a sermon with the keys player padding is counter-productive. The intention is an emotional connection to the big finish. Instead, it raises anxiety in the audience (he’s almost done) & overrides preacher’s vocal dynamic in the crucial part.

@howertonjosh FEAR NOT is what angels almost always say FIRST in the Bible. If the contact doesn't contain some form of that - NOT an angel. then = demon.

No, the discovery of "aliens" would not destroy Christianity. However, I want to warn Christians everywhere about this current alien/UFO hysteria 👇

@howertonjosh @sircalebhammer Christians are a large part of the people labeled conservative. Christians are happy because we are striving to live in alignment with God - where true joy is found.

Angels in the Bible almost always begin their encounters with humans by saying "Fear not" or "Do not be afraid." If the "alien" takes a different approach, to me they are probably not an angel. The whole topic is extra-Biblical speculation so CAUTION: going too far can lead to heresy.

@TheMuppetPastor Correct. The Bible is God teaching and (in the Gospels) showing us how to live. It is not an astronomy book or a history book - our tiny brains could not comprehend a book like that from God.

Once again folks, there is absolutely nothing that can or will ever be discovered which will “ruin” the Bible or your faith. It may challenge our INTERPRETATION of the Bible, but that is an issue with us, not the Bible. Your faith isn’t based on an interpretation of the Bible, but in Christ. If you feel disappointed by a new revelation, realize it’s a “you” problem, because it reveals that your faith was in your expectation. The Bible is what it is, not what we expect it to be. God is who He is, not who we want Him to be. Faith isn’t meant to meet our expectations, but rather to conform to God’s expectations.

Ruth obeyed and God gave grace. Grace and Obedience (often in the form of repentance) the two most prominent themes I see in the Bible. Grace comes from Him and obedience comes from us that’s why grace gets me into heaven because only He can do that. It pleases Him to watch me do my best to obey.

I learned an interesting fact the other day about Jesus’ lineage. Some of you know this, but one of his ancestors was Ruth, the Moabite, and heroine of her own book. What I had forgotten was this verse: ““No Ammonite or Moabite may enter the assembly of the Lord. Even to the tenth generation, none of them may enter the assembly of the Lord forever,” Deuteronomy 23:3 ESV NO Moabite could enter the assembly of the Lord? This harsh punishment was a result of Moab’s many sins against their cousin, Israel (sons of Lot and born of incest) when they tried to hire Balaam to curse the Hebrews, when they refused to help their cousins, when they invaded, and when their wicked religion butchered infants to their pagan gods. So why was Ruth able to not only become Hebrew, but to be a proud member of the line of David, and later, Jesus? “But Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.” Ruth 1:16 ESV Ruth the Moabite did more than pledge loyalty to Naomi; she rejected her culture, her gods, and her old life, choosing the true God instead. Ruth was not subject to the curse against Moab because she was penitent, humble, and a convert. God punished the host who violently opposed him and embraced sin even when they knew a better way. Moab knew about God; Lot was a follower, but they chose wickedness instead. Yet God forgave anyone who abandoned wickedness and returned to Him. More than just a love story; Ruth is a reminder that God forgives all who seek His face.
