@star_excelsior @GrandpaRoy2 You're correct, the GLSDB was the issue. However, the new GBU-53 SDB-II "Stormbreaker" deals with any potential jamming issues by adding a newer, hardened anti-jam GPS receiver plus a tri-mode (MMW)/IIR and SAL seeker which also allows it to engage moving vehicles/ships, etc.

@GrandpaRoy2 current me if I'm wrong but it was the GLSDB that had the major problems while the standard SDB dropped from aircraft performed adequately.

The American GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb failed during its initial introduction in Ukraine because it could not handle Russian GPS jamming. Here the impact of that intense jamming is still apparent in the accuracy of the improved SDBs that have since been reintroduced in Ukraine.

@HotmSandy @Leopard24theWin Wat? You haven't asked about the performance parameters once. Instead, you're trusting the French CoS which made a definitive statement on it being "better". Does he even have a SAM/BMD background? Hell, is he a engineer?

@HotmSandy @Leopard24theWin I've read the "Ukranian data". I'll take 15+ years of direct experience + in industry over some random Frenchmens interpretation of it. Especially in regards to Patriot. I've forgotten more about BMD than you'll ever hope to know on the subject. But do feel free to inquire...

@HotmSandy @Leopard24theWin Real world use says otherwise. There's zero chance that a system that uses proximity fuzed/blast fragmentation W/a sub 50 pound warhead is going to be better than a kinetic, HTK interceptor. Also, PAC-3 MSE is better in every category. Altitude, range, etc. Your CoS is a muppet.

@VLS_Appreciator IRIS-T, PAC-3 MSE and Arrow-3 is probably the best complete IADS system you can get right now. PAC-3 MSE/LTAMDS for terminal phase SRBM-MRBM coverage and Arrow-3 for theater level, midcourse phase MRBM-IRBM threats (Oreshnik) with IRIS-T for mobile SHORAD/MR-SAM coverage? 👌

The German systematic disregard for the SAMP/T-NG is more than frustrating. A mature, efficient European system with a shared missile across platforms seing a production ramp-up, but no not good enough.

US lost more aircraft in 1 day than it had on any single day since 1972 during the Vietnam War. Professor Mearsheimer noted the deep irony in what Hegseth tried to spin as some kind of great success story actually produced the worst single-day air losses in over half a century.

@vcdgf555 The whole thing makes me think the Iranians didn’t demand Vance, as the admin claims, but rather Vance insisted for photo ops, as part of his not-yet-declared presidential candidacy. I wish we had competent people in the White House focused on governing, not self enrichment.

There is a third road - one I do not think is likely but is entirely possible - in which no deal is reached, the Strait gradually defacto reopens, and the conflict ends status quo ante bellum.

🚨 WSJ: The exchange of messages over the communication network between the Navy forces of the IRGC and the US Navy warships that crossed the Strait of Hormuz yesterday: "This is the final warning, this is the final warning," the Iranians broadcast. "The passage is in accordance with international law, there is no intention to challenge you, and I am acting according to the ceasefire laws of my government," the US side replied.

No fresh news out of the negotiations. But while we’re in this media blackout, let me whisper you a little secret: The US and Israel are winning. How do I know? Because Iran loudly insisted it wouldn’t even come to the table unless its full 10-point demands were accepted as the starting point, and unless Israel immediately stopped all operations in Lebanon. Trump brushed off both conditions and yet here Iran is, sitting at the table anyway. That’s the real story behind the headlines. Shhh! Keep it between us. If the media actually reported it straight, I’d have nothing left to tweet about.

A few points just to get ahead of all the tedious replies: 1) I think Biden’s end of term pardons were outrageous and wrote that they were impeachment worthy. 2) one of the reasons I thought they were outrageous was that they were all but guaranteeing that the cycle of abuse would get worse. 3) Trump pardoning every one in his administration can simultaneously be proof that the cycle is getting worse, while also be wrong on the merits, but understandable given the game theory dynamics at play. 4) Trump outrageously abused the pardon power in his first term. Biden compounded that. Trump has already abused it outrageously in his second term. He will abuse it more than necessary because he will want to protect obvious bad acts by his loyalists and defend against inevitable bad acts by Democrats. I carry no brief for anybody here. I want to amend the constitution to either check or remove the pardon power.
Jonah Goldberg@JonahDispatch

Only thing shocking about this is how early we’re hearing this. I think ultimately nearly every senior political appointee (he thinks was loyal) at DOJ, DHS, DOD, and the West Wing will get a pardon and lots of folks lower down as well. Gonna be fun watching Vance run in ‘28 defending it all.
