With the possible exception of gender roles or Israel, tweeting about video games attracts the worst possible commentariat "silk song isn't a hard game" is a sentence only possible to type with the aid of a stylus, the hand having been deformed into a claw from overmasturbation

@cybelethebest @WildernessPaths @rwlesq >And the business you’re referring to as successes are doing so under our current legal framework This is tiresome No, they don't exist under the same legal framework *because employers with fewer than x employees aren't subject to the "must hire women" rules*

Even after the death of its author, "Bullshit Jobs" remains a cancer on the discourse. It was perhaps the most incurious book I have ever read (strictly speaking, I only read the first third). Companies are not "subsidizing" anyone. If they are hiring someone to do something, there is almost certainly a reason beyond "we wanted to give this random person money." If you can't figure out why, it is probably a problem with you.

First time running beads since last fall and I'm already falling into old Welder Habits; as I've got caffeine on board to keep me awake, but it's making my hand jittery so I'm contemplating a beer to calm things down. If I sip it just right maybe I can hit the balance point

The 20% duty cycle on this old welder is brutal. Leaves me with way too much time to contemplate the horrible weld I just made.

oh I just noticed this bit. "wildlife costs", ie they're padding the bill by assigning an inherent dollar value to the deer itself

1,400 accidents accounting for 'billions' (ie > 2b) implies that each accident costs at least 1.4 million dollars. But the linked article says collisions cost $19k - $110k, depending on the animal.
Jerome Foster II@JeromeFosterII

“Research has found that one wildlife crossing can prevent about 1,400 accidents over accidents over a 70-year lifespan, which translates into billions of dollars in savings” pewtrsts.org/4k2RTQO via @pewtrusts

what dashboards & monitors would you like to see in The Situation Room? my thoughts: - weather (local/national/world - local flight/rail traffic maps - local traffic cams - major news channels - dashboard of planes/shipping traffic in region of concern - if war, maps of strikes
Henry Shevlin@dioscuri

Idea: a bar called The Situation Room. Like a sports bar but for politics. Cable news and live feeds on the screens instead of football. Atlases and copies of Jane’s Defence Weekly on every table. Multiple sets of Risk and Diplomacy behind the bar.

@mdrew4nh It's a pretty normal Constitutional issue. The state passed a law that violates Federal law (the Clean Air Act, which would require the state to get a waiver first) so the judge barred the state law from taking effect under the Supremacy Clause.

What's unique about this situation is that it is very rare for states to repeal a law. It's normal for judges to consider the constitutionality of new or existing laws and legality of actions under those laws. *This* judge is attempting to unilaterally re-impose a law that NO LONGER EXISTS, at the behest of the corporation that benefitted from it. I'm not sure this has ever happened before, but the absurdity of it is so great that I think it would have been newsworthy if it happened previously.
