@JussiPuska1 @AzFlin I'm in Beijing. But here's some pics of Swan Lake in Sanmenxia, Henan. Plenty of English here. Can easily see it in the metro in Beijing and street signs too.

China is the only country that gives zero fucks about tourists. You must do everything their way. Want to call Uber? Fuck you. It doesn’t exist, use DiDi. Want to pay with credit card? Apple Pay? Fuck you, doesn’t work. Go install Alipay Nobody speaks any English. No signs or menus are in English. Whip out that Google Translate app. Oh wait, Google’s blocked. Go and setup your VPN 🤣 By far the hardest place to travel to, esp without native Chinese speaker. But nothing good comes easy does it!

In 1878, some 200,000 men belonged to the Orange Order -- about one-third of all male Protestants in Canada.

The Trump administration is yet again demanding you accept the narrative that random Americans with no history of violence suddenly became aggressive but the militarized force occupying city streets with a long, well-documented pattern of violence is actually the innocent victim.

The problem isn’t that Trump is the “Most Unamerican President” - it’s that he’s the MOST American President. He’s the true face of empire, just without the mask.

On a personal note Ten and a half years ago, as I was resigning Greece’s finance ministry, I knew I would be on the receiving end of slings and arrows sent my way by an irate European and Greek establishment. The reason? I was the only finance minister who dared say an unequivocal ‘no’ to yet another toxic eurozone bailout. Anticipating the vilification that was about to be unleashed against me, I wrote the following in my resignation letter: “I shall wear their hatred on my lapel as a badge of honour”. I have been doing so ever since. My incessant character assassination, by the mainstream Greek media, was expected – after all, to their oligarch owners, I was an unpleasant reminder of that brief moment in 2015 when they panicked, feeling they had lost their control over the demos. There was, however, something else, something far more pernicious, that I had not anticipated: the manner in which my comprehensive demonisation by the mainstream media and politicians turned me into fair game for all comers. As the abuse and the vilification aimed at me proliferated, suddenly, surreptitiously, subliminally, the impression was given to almost everyone that it is OK to take shots at me. To lie through the nose about me, without any fear of being exposed as liars. To treat me disrespectfully in my presence, without worrying that they would look uncouth. To attack me physically in public spaces, convinced that they would get away with it as the state could be counted upon not to lift its little finger to protect me. And the worst? This licence to abuse me, which was initially granted by the establishment, was subconsciously welcomed by people on the left, on society’s fringes even. Former comrades from our days in government, the authoritarian Greek communist party, good people belonging to the extra-parliamentary left, even people who appreciated me – they all felt, deep down, that I could be attacked, insulted, mistreated with impunity. And many did take advantage. Ten years later, after yet another scandalous incident earlier this evening on a Greek television channel, I felt the need to put down this experience, to commit it to the written record. Thank you for reading. Yanis Varoufakis

The most insane thing about all this, is just that: -There is no reason to defend this. It’s not political. You could just say: “Officer didn’t follow protocol. Doesn’t reflect our values. Will be held accountable” There is NOTHING to gain from defending this UNLESS you *want* for ICE to have the freedom to kill US citizens for disagreeing with you!
JD Vance@JDVance

This is preposterous. First of all, she's not waving the officers through and has no right to do so even if she were. She is waving another car through, before the officers approach her car. Second, the officers are not randomly searching her, they are approaching her vehicle because she is violating the law: namely, she is obstructing a lawful enforcement operation. You're not allowed to walk up to or drive up to people who are enforcing the law to make it harder for them to do their jobs. Third, this defense attorney is drawing a meaningless distinction between an ICE officer and a "real police officer." Again, you're not allowed to interrupt a lawful enforcement operation, which is exactly what this woman was doing. Fourth, the officer didn't discharge his weapon to prevent her from fleeing. When he discharged his weapon, she had pointed the vehicle at him and pressed the gas. He discharged his weapon in self defense, and other angles of the video show the woman *clearly* hit the officer with her car while accelerating. The gaslighting is off the charts and I'm having none of it. This guy was doing his job. She tried to stop him from doing his job. When he approached her car, she tried to hit him. A tragedy? Absolutely. But a tragedy that falls on this woman and all of the radicals who teach people that immigration is the one type of law that rioters are allowed to interfere with.
