First up, the heartbreaking story (15m) of Alice Ayres who lost her life saving young members of her family during a fire in Southwark in the spring of 1885. We support the decision by stakeholders not to add further tablets to the Watts Memorial. We do, however, strongly support the idea to make Postman's Park, as a whole, a commemorative garden dedicated to civilian heroism and will put our full weight behind that plan.

POSTMANS PARK MEMORIAL TABLET On September 6th 1880, sixteen-year-old George Blencowe , gave his life in a valiant attempt to prevent a twelve-year-old boy from drowning in the River Lea, in East London.

@CaronLipman @walk_hackney @HistoryOfStokey @ArchivesHackney I wrote about both of those for my Stoke Newington group and I'm pretty sure I found out the stories by reading them in old newspaper articles I'd found on an "old newspaper article" site, but I can't remember which, it may have been via Genes Reunited.
