@flasportsbuzz Patterson? Did Zane Gonzalez “miss” his flight already? Or did they sign him to get a better deal out of Patterson?

Am I not a Dolphins historian? When they look up the Dolphins from 2007-present won’t my name be on the stories and column RECORDING the franchise’s history? Who else fits that description?

NEW: Though many Dolphins fans praised the Willis signing, why are a vocal group bashing it? We give some the forum to explain & we respond with some facts & perspective miamiherald.com/sports/nfl/mia… Something different today - a glimpse into the minds of diehard Finfans&our response

Many Willis nuggets and other things in our around-the-clock Day 2 Dolphins blog. As @CameronWolfe said, Dolphins view Willis as potential longterm starter. As we said last week, they really like him. So these retread/journeyman references - and Ryan Fitzpatrick comparisons - are not reality. That might be reality to Igor in Cutler Bay and Milo in Miramar, but it's not the Dolphins' reality.

NEW: More updates in our Day2 Dolphins blog, including cap news & Dolphins add a kicker who is 18 for 28 on FGs of 50-plus in his career, including 7 for 9 last year miamiherald.com/sports/nfl/mia… Miami opts for strong-legged Zane Gonzalez over Sanders, Riley Patterson. And more Willis

New kicker Zane Gonzalez’s 2025 stats/ranks: Gonzalez has been in the league for awhile kicking for a number of teams, but has a career FG% of 81% so definitely hasn’t been a dominate kicker in the NFL. Hoping we get a good year out of him, but this is a lackluster signing to me.

I don’t think it’s really anything against Willis personally, but the same day we ate nearly $100 Million of dead cap money for one quarterback, they sign a career backup for more than half that amount to take his place. Also with all the failure and mediocrity over the last 40 years, it’s easier to digest stinking if we know we’re gonna stink from the outset. Going all in for a quarterback with all the other roster holes and lack of cap space doesn’t really seem like a great idea.

Opinions are lifeblood of sports and everyone can have one. But surprised at volume of people bashing Willis signing when they hired 2 people who literally watched every practice of his (not games, as Iverson would say, but practice!). Don't people castigating this move concede that Sullivan/Hafley have more information than Ernie in Tamarac?

Orlovsky is crazy, if this is truly a rebuild year and with our limited cap space and draft picks to fill all the holes you recently wrote about, a taking a rookie quarterback that high makes zero sense, especially when the following year appears to have prodigious talent, and we will surely be picking low again. Let’s rebuild the lines and defensive backfield first, we’re looking at a subpar season regardless.

ESPN's Dan Orlovsky said today that if Dolphins don't sign Willis, they should entertain drafting Alabama QB Ty Simpson at 11 because Rams could take him at 13. (Orlovsky is great, but If I'm going to use 11 for a QB with all your other needs, I would prefer someone who was better in face of pass rush than Simpson and has more dominating physical traits than Simpson and didn't struggle down stretch like Simpson.)

With the Dolphins releasing Liam Eichenberg, keep in mind that veteran who spends year on PUP (and never comes off) has his contract toll. (So though Liam had been listed as UFA, he wasn't until his release today)... Dolphins also tendered exclusive rights free agent CB Bonner.

NEW: Man was gambling on his phone while driving when he crashed into a pregnant woman, causing her to give birth prematurely. 30-year-old Jack Bentley was arrested and thrown in jail following the incident. The woman, two children who were in the car, and their pet dog were all injured in the crash, which happened in Derby, England. The woman suffered a fractured pelvis and had to undergo an emergency Caesarean section. The baby was in intensive care for multiple weeks. "The pregnant woman had to undergo an emergency Caesarean section, leaving her premature baby in intensive care for a number of weeks, when she suffered two collapsed lungs," the BBC reported. The dog also needed emergency surgery. "The fact his actions caused a woman to give birth prematurely and left a tiny baby spending the first few weeks of their life in intensive care is nothing short of despicable," said Constable Richard Morris. Bentley was sentenced to over two years in prison.
