Where would you rather be right now? Southern Maine with snow? Rain and 40s in MA? Clouds and 40s in CT? Sunny and 60s in NJ? Sunny and 80s in SW PA?

On this date in 1907, it was 101° in Nebraska and 100° in Kansas. The weather has always been crazy.

@ChrisMartzWX This crazy weather tells me there is a climate crisis. I don’t find it funny

@seckhardt Same ones who told us we couldnt use it for the extreme cold we had now they can use it for this. 🤣 comical. Then there's the "Its weather, not climate" crowd.

I am going to make a short video about the “unprecedented” March heatwave that is gripping the central and western U.S. this week. I am going to wait until tomorrow or Monday to do it, though as I need today’s data to come in since it’s the last of the peak. When looking at all-time records, station record length is important for context. I suspect that, at least in the Plains, most monthly high temperature records being set are at sites that didn’t have data in 1907 or 1910. As for the Southwest, well, it may indeed be “unprecedented,” but there are some indications in NOAA NCEI fort data that a similar heatwave event occurred in March 1879. Data on that event, though, is limited spatially. Regardless of where the stats stand, in the context of “global warming,” well the average (or a change in average) doesn’t determine the values in a set. Therefore, it’s problematic to blame this on climate change, at least as a major component. Even without global warming, this event would still have occurred and records would be smashed by wide margins as a baseline shift (arguably) only would raise the Tmax values by 1-2°F, AT MOST. The real cause of this heatwave is a mid-tropospheric ridge, and those should (in theory) decrease in a warmer climate as a result of decreased baroclinic instability, but admittedly, the literature is mixed (I just think some of it is wrong, that is, the wavier jet stream goons that need to go back to fluid dynamics). But don’t expect any of the usual fear mongering climastrologist activists to be beacons of truth when it comes to these kinds of events. Nuance doesn’t matter to them.

2 hours 40 minutes lifting up matted down grass with leaf blower. Just have the back yard remaining a bit too wet back there still too. This was the most the lawn has been matted down that i can remember. Usually takes me much less time. Lawn porn season starts now.
