Conditions in NC are maddening. Yes, there are TONS of supplies, but remote areas, which are cut off, are still not getting them. It takes ropes and ladders to get into some areas….the logistics of this are what nightmares are made of…. People are hungry, this is this week

A Direct Hit for #Halloween! The #solarstorm launched during the X-flare today is indeed Earth-directed! NASA predictions confirm impact by early October 31. Expect #aurora to mid-latitudes, as well as #GPS reception issues and #amateur radio disruptions on Earth's nightside!

Aside from debates on solar cycle 25, we quite often see nice eruptions. This morning there was another one from a quiescent region, resulting in a gradual B1.8 flare. Based on the dimming pattern, an encounter may be possible with the southeastern flank of the CME around 1 Aug.

The latest X1.5 flare was associated with large-scale phenomena (EUV wave, CME, etc.) that were less dramatic than the 2017-09-10 event, the last major event of cycle 24 (see my pinned tweet). But we can celebrate the first X-class flare of cycle 25, and congratulate @swmcintosh
