We've fined 4chan £450,000 for not having age checks in place to prevent children seeing porn on its site.
The Online Safety Act is concerned with protecting people in the UK. It doesn't require platforms to restrict what people in other countries see.

@Anglo3000 @Ofcom A key difference is that sites like pornhub are businesses via subs, operating in the UK. 4chan isn’t, it’s just a message board. Doesn’t even have ads. It doesn’t “exist” in the UK.

@Ofcom My unpopular opinion is that this is a good idea.
I assumed they are just anti-4chan because 4chan is right-wing, but no, I connected to a UK NordVPN server and they are, in fact, blocking pornhub and everything else.
So yeah, it is equal application of the law, at first glance

A hugely underrated aspect of the Dune universe's appeal is how Frank Herbert built a world where people zip around the galaxy in spaceships but then fight each other with swords and knives. It makes everything 50 percent cooler than a world of ray guns and robots.

I thought the correct take is that it is symbiotic parasitism between Paul and the Fremen. Anyway ultimately the core point in Dune is that you shouldn't let others do your thinking for you, whether it be machine, religion or society. Beware the charismatic hero leader.

You want the REALLY fun take on this new Dune discourse? Paul did not engage in any "cultural appropriation". The fremen culture had been deliberately engineered for generations to welcome someone like him as a savior. He was literally doing what their culture demanded of him

If you think ASOIAF fans are insufferable when talking about who the main character is, wait until you hear about Malazan. At least there's only 3 options in ASOIAF, in Malazan I've seen people have legitimate arguments for 15 different characters being the main.

@madstorkreviews @zbogus77 I agree, if you have to pick one, it’s probably fiddler. But Malazan so clearly doesn’t have a “main character” that it’s a moot point. Unless you can include the entire Paran family as one character at least

@daleZrin_ @zbogus77 He only appears in 4/10 books, and only a lot in book 1 and 3. Although he’s definitely one of the most important characters to the overall plot. But there’s several of those on his level as well.

With the new EV rebate, you can get a Tesla model Y for $45,000. This is cheaper than a Rav 4. It's crazy.
Hard to find a better overall value out there. Unless you really can't charge at home, this should be a no brainer to everyone

@Prominent_Bryan If that's consistent, fair enough... I am somewhat skeptical of that stat though, considering what happens to every other Li-battery powered device that gets daily or near-daily use for a decade. Maybe their fabrication process is just that superior, in which case good on them...
