Andy Burnham has put his career and reputation on the line to demonstrate an ability to beat Reform in a tight marginal. This is exactly the kind of courage Labour needs if it is to win the next election.
Politics UK@PolitlcsUK

🚨 NEW: Sir John Curtice says Labour would have "less than 5% chance" in the Makerfield by-election "if it were anyone other than Andy Burnham" He adds it's one of the tightest Labour-Reform contests and a "much tougher" election to win than Gorton and Denton [@politico]

Nigel Farage failed to become an MP SEVEN TIMES. And yet he could be this country’s Prime Minister before the end of the decade. The point is he didn’t give up. That’s what it takes. I don’t understand this argument. Sometimes in politics you lose, yes.
Matthew Stadlen@MatthewStadlen

Has there ever been a more blindingly obvious example of the grass is greener syndrome than the sudden hysteria surrounding Andy Burnham? He lost to Ed Miliband in 2010. He was thrashed by Jeremy Corbyn in 2015. Now he’s capped bus fares in Manchester and he’s seen as the all-conquering, returning hero and the saviour of Labour and the country?

Israel’s public posture is a mixture of whining about how the world hates them and smugness about how superior they are the rest of the world. Americans are annoying, but our annoyingness comes out of our ability to suck up all the oxygen in the room. Israelis act as if any attempt to remove them from an institution (or even just a slight reprimand) is akin to the Holocaust
Maytal Kowalski@MaytalKowalski

Such an insane thing for AN AMERICAN to say.

@PanasonicDX4500 And if Sherrod can’t run then Kamala is seen as a decent stand in but she’s under IRS audit and that’s apparently a dealbreaker for some people, so if not Brown and not Harris people are turning to… John Kerry.

NEWS — Haley Stevens’ supporters are pressuring Democratic leaders to back her in Michigan’s Senate primary, arguing she’s the only option for the party to avoid nominating progressive favorite Abdul El-Sayed Moderates, sources told @NOTUSreports, were very concerned about El-Sayed’s strong performance at the state convention last month. The sources said that the recent endorsements of Stevens from former Sen. Debbie Stabenow and Sen. Gary Peters’ wife were part of a effort to get previously undecided Dem leaders to back Stevens More on the push to consolidate support around Stevens w/ @Alex_Roarty @igorbobic notus.org/2026-election/…

Korea-Spain discourse is back but it masks that they are actually weirdly parallel countries. Both fully modernized relatively late in mid-late 20th Centuries and are former RW dictatorships that democratized. Both also have extremely low TFR!
