@NextGenSW What is that saying about TP? That it needs a common video game trend to cover up the blandness?

@CloutStrife1st It breaks my mind when people compare the two series. They have nothing in common outside of a party dynamic. Even bringing up Takahashi is odd when his role in older FFs was in graphic design rather than writing. And his wife who actually did writing, doesn't work on Xenoblade

Im not a fan of tweets like this "You can get the same feeling in xenoblade as you did old final Fantasy!" Because you can't. There is a specific style that final fantasy has that xenoblade and other franchises don't have. Only one that does is kingdom hearts

@terminallyOL I swear indie dweebs just want to feel special for liking games with jank. If disco elysium was in pixel art and had worse writing, the these people would've gobbled it up

how is disco elysium not considered an indie game when it was self published and it was their only game? what is indie game even supposed to mean?

@DoomAssistMe I mean Xenoblade X was kind of following / expanding on the trend of the most popular games at the time (and even now) which were largely open world. It had every opportunity to do well

Digging up a 7 year old interview you saw got reposted on resetera to fit a narrative. Its Xenoblade X, it was always going to struggle as a stand alone entry with extremely different priorities gameplay wise from the rest of the series. too much to unpack here in a tweet.
GamesRadar+@GamesRadar

JRPGs struggle to break 3 million sales, Xenoblade lead once said, and after his hesitance to focus on cutting-edge tech, Xenoblade Chronicles X's wonky Switch 2 edition may have proven him right gamesradar.com/games/xenoblad…

@GenePark @DDDurango @Zolanovich @8BitClosedFist But why should every game be made to appeal to everyone? Hi Fi Rush clearly came about due to the team / director's love for a specific type of music. Don't you think there would be some dilution in making a rhythm game with genres they're not into, just to be all inclusive?

@Andy_VGC I don't think there's a single game designer in the industry as seasoned as Tezuka too. Unlike Miyamoto, he was still actively involved in games till Wonder, maybe more

For Nintendo, this is as big a retirement as Miyamoto, if not more. Tezuka has been involved in, and in the 90s directed most of, Nintendo's most influential games. From Mario Bros. to Mario Wonder, he's been involved in development for over 40 years. A true industry legend.

@SgtTanukiman @GenePark @SynthPotato Yeah the revelation behind Zelda left me stunned in a way very few plot twists have. The way the game so organically does it via raw discovery and gameplay was just masterful imo. Nobody can ever convince me to dislike TotK's story based on how I experienced it

@Wermutton @GenePark @SynthPotato I loved it. Part of the fun for me was seeing how everyone played it differently, but I didn't consider that meant people were also experiencing the story differently. I can see how that could be a problem for some, but TotK had me locked in.

I’ll always find it strange how bad writing is seen as a massive issue for Crimson Desert but Breath of the Wild and TOTK both get away with having the most basic, generic writing and boring storytelling. Why do some games get a pass for focusing on gameplay & others don’t?
GermanStrands@GermanStrands

Pearl Abyss CEO addresses ‘disappointment’ in Crimson Desert’s story: “I partially empathize with the disappointment users feel regarding the story. I believe it would have been better if we could have handled it better…The development team tried to fill in the gaps in the remaining time, but ultimately, we focused on strengthening the gameplay, which is what we do best." forbes.com/sites/paultass…

@edwardbrgr She did NOT write the scripts, Steve Kloves did. And Yates’ direction is absolutely awful lol - the graveyard scene in GoF is horrendous. He stays zoomed in on Radcliffe’s face almost every second and it almost hilarious how bad it is

Edward Burger (not Berger) ❤️🌈
In my opinion, David Yates did a spectacular job with the last four Harry Potter films. He may not be the best director in the series, but for what he was given, he handled the darker tone, the scale, and the emotional weight of the story really well. Sure, the franchise started to feel like it ran out of steam once he stayed on with the Fantastic Beasts movies for far too long, but I don’t think he deserves all the hate he gets just for not being the strongest voice in the franchise. A lot of the issues with those films come down to the scripts, largely written by Rowling rather than Yates’ direction, which was solid enough for what the material allowed.

@GenePark @SynthPotato The funny thing about TotK's story, is that if you experience it the "right" way, it's genuinely fantastic. I somehow never snagged the more spoilery memories until the very end, so I was fully hooked by the mystery behind Zelda lol

@SynthPotato TOTK gets less of a pass because it DID promise a deeper story and that ended up being cut and paste flashbacks for a lot of it. and tbf much of the zelda community feels the same way. it’s not getting any pass.

@kiwitalkz @carabin92 Because their remakes sold more than their original games. Echoes of Wisdom sold half of Link's Awakening

Grezzo is working on 2D Zelda though, usually a remake is used to train a team and then they hand off a new entry to that developer Grezzo - OOT 3D/MM 3D - Echoes Of Wisdom MercurySteam - Samus Returns - Metroid Dread Why would they go back to making something they have made before?

So Nate The Hate is saying an Ocarina Of Time Remake is coming later in the year. I am still skeptical about this and have a few thoughts. 1. First off whose making it, no way it can be the Zelda team they are preoccupied with the next Zelda? What team internally has the skill level to pull it off? 2. A remake as opposed to a remaster would take 4 to 5 years and youd have to fundamentally rethink every convention in the game and would require a crap ton of resources. 3. Surely this isnt their big holiday game if it does exist? or they release it in October. Ocarina Of Time is my third favourite game behind RE4 Remake and Super Metroid, I love it to death but let's be real no way can this go toe to toe with GTA 6, and if I have to pick one game during Xmas I am 1000% picking GTA 6 over a remake of Ocarina Of Time and I guarantee many others will too. My belief was always an updated version of Ocarina Of Time on 3DS was more plausible.

@Wermutton for most AAA games, yes maybe not so much for Nintendo cause their marketing is usually pretty terrible lol Example: Metroid Prime 4 definitely didnt get a marketing campaign that was similar to its production budget. lol

Yip, Jason is bang on and I have been saying this for a while, that budgets for AAA games are insane now in the U.S. This is why Rockstar has 1600 devs alone in India doing QA and art on GTA 6, its way cheaper. Why pay an american dev $140K a year when that can pay for 4 or 5 indian devs. It's not difficult to work out the rough average of development costs for a game, take the average salary multiply it by the amount of devs at that studio and then by the amount of years the game was in development, add in a 75% cost for marketing costs and 10% cost for other costs such as commercial leases and other bills (e.g water, power etc.) and that will give you a rough idea of how much a game costs to make.
