Walked into the headquarters at 9:23 AM on a Thursday. The carpet was that blue-gray commercial grade stuff from 1987. Fake wood paneling. Coffee brewing in a Mr. Coffee that predates the Clinton administration. Woman at the front desk has been there since Reagan. Still uses a Rolodex. Oil painting of the founder hanging next to a Lions Club plaque from 1994. The lobby chairs are that burgundy vinyl that squeaks when you sit down. CEO's office has a CB radio and a photo of him shaking hands with the governor in 1998. Everything about this place screams "we'll outlast the next three recessions." Walked out and pulled up the screener on my phone. 0.47x tangible book value. The market thinks this bank is worth less than the cash in the vault.

They told voters Fort Mill schools were bursting at the seams… so we approved $204 million to “keep up.” Now let’s talk about what actually happened next. In March 2024, voters approved the bond with 64% support. The pitch was simple: explosive growth, overcrowded schools, a desire for a publicly funded preschool, and an urgent need for additional land. District projections said enrollment would hit 21,248 students by the 2026–2027 school year. But the most recent number presented at a school board meeting? 18,253 students. 😱 That’s not a rounding error. That’s THREE THOUSAND students off from what voters were told. Enrollment has been essentially flat for years, even while the surrounding population has grown. At the same time, yearly spending has skyrocketed. The district budget was $177 million in 2022. This year, it’s $254 million. That’s a $77 million increase in just a few years. Per pupil spending tells the same story: in 2021, it was about $10,946 per student. By 2026, it’s approaching $14,000 per student. 🚨 We are spending significantly more per child without the enrollment growth that was used to justify it. And when you question it, when you point out that the numbers don’t match the narrative, you’re treated like the problem. Like a public school heretic. Because the #ChardonnayCaucus has made it clear: spend more, tax more, and don’t ask questions. Cheers! 🥂 But this isn’t about being anti-public school. It’s about being pro-accountability. You can support teachers, support students, and still expect honesty when it comes to taxpayer dollars. Here’s what matters now: four school board seats are up for election this November. If the projections were wrong, if the growth didn’t materialize, and if spending continues to climb anyway… well, that’s not a growth crisis. It’s a spending problem. And voters are about to have a say. A final PS - you can’t blame the state funding model alone if your operations costs continue to climb. The need for increased taxation is part a revenue source problem but also an overall overhead (spending) problem. How Florida Highway Patrol arrested the accused Cotswold Harris Teeter stabber: Court documents provide new information on how Marvina Butler-Hardy, the Cotswold stabbing suspect, was caught in Florida. A Florida State Highway Patrol trooper was patrolling I-95 yesterday in Flagler County when the Jacksonville Regional Communication Center got a BOLO for a silver Hyundai traveling south on 95 from the Duval area. The vehicle was described as having a paper tag and a taped up window and was being driven by a black female. The Highway Patrol trooper spotted a silver Hyundai being driven by a black female but didn't see a paper tag or tape on the windows. But he says the car had a very large crack on the windshield obstructing the driver's view. So the trooper pulled her over on I-95. The trooper says Butler-Hardy only gave him an ID card instead of a license and when asked why, she said her license is suspended. The trooper provided the name of the woman he pulled over to another trooper who confirmed she was the suspect in the Cotswold stabbing. He then arrested her. The trooper said upon further inspection of her vehicle, a North Carolina paper tag was found on the rear seat and the tape that was on the window appeared to have been peeled off. The car was towed. Marvina Butler-Hardy is being held in the Flagler County Jail until she sent extradited back to Meck County. CMPD says she stabbed a pregnant woman in a random act of violence in the Harris Teeter Cotswold parking lot. The victim and baby are okay.
