Curious how adding ASIC mining is going to change GPU mining for @QuaiNetwork? It's actually somewhat counterintuitive, GPU mining will actually be more profitable after SOAP launch since emissions will be increasing for GPU miners. What? How can this be possible? Don't ASICs crowd out GPU miners? 🤯 In traditional Proof-of-Work chains that is true. As a token gains adoption there is more incentive to create an ASIC for it. Algorithms like SHA, Scrypt, Equihash, etc. all have machines made specifically for that algorithm. Algorithms like ProgPoW and KawPoW have been created to be ASIC-resistant to be mined by GPUs. With the SOAP upgrade, Quai Network is going multi-algo with support for hash functions that have ASICs and hash functions that are ASIC resistant. The supported algorithms are: - SHA (ASIC) - Scrypt (ASIC) - KawPoW (GPU) Each of these hash functions will operate on their own difficulty adjustment algorithm 👇 And also have their own allocation of block rewards! As shown in the illustrative example above, Quai block rewards will be increasing overall to accommodate more rewards for GPU miners and ASICs like. How much more profitable will it be? That depends on many factors like difficulty, Quai price, parent chain subsidies from SOAP, etc. In order to determine the ROI with your setup, be sure to track sites like @WhatToMine on December 17th when SHA and Scrypt mining officially goes live on @QuaiNetwork with the SOAP upgrade 🧙‍♂️
