@HighyieldHarry this is a fundamental issue with autoregressive models. they “think” about things in their context, so even if you say “dont think about elephants” they’ll start considering elephants in the response. i generally just start a new session to avoid this sort of fixation.

Been spending a sizable amount of this afternoon telling AI "hey I think this is wrong" it saying nah, saying "are you sure?", AI doubling down, and then me pointing out the error they made.

@Duderichy is this a meta joke about folks who don’t follow the difference between mean and median?

I am once again reminding you that if you can do some simple logic and dictionary iteration, then the bar for the coding interview is on the ground also, we’re hiring, i need referral bonuses, and it’s a good company sir

@yacineMTB @eigenrobot as a capable man, you should be capable of identifying other capable men. if you can’t find a school that’s not so shitty as to fuck up your naturally smart kid, that’s a skill issue.

the vast majority of teachers are much less capable than me at teaching. this is exactly what i'm saying. who the fuck is qualifying them to teach? someone also less skilled than myself fear of how people look at you is why you rely on "qualifications" that other humans no smarter than you or I have come up with. maybe the difference here is that i am simply much more skilled than you at things generally

obviously this person is not arguing to convince anyone that they are wrong so i have to imagine theyre angling for status with an imagined audience by explaining why the outgroup is Bad its a shame that homeschoolers are become a shitlib bête noire, bc who needs more enemies
Knowing Better@KnowingBetterYT

I get flak every time I say this, so I figured I should clarify. Universally, 100% of the time, homeschooling is the worst option for every single child. Without exception. I'm not being hyperbolic. Let me explain. 1/11

@yacineMTB @eigenrobot if that’s your thing, go for it, but don’t fool yourself into thinking you’ll have better outcomes for something that’s 90% genes.

@yacineMTB @eigenrobot +1 to heritability, which is why it’s not worth the effort to homeschool. like, they’d succeed as a smartypants weirdo in school (as long as the school is good enough to support smartypants weirdos) or at home, but the latter takes way more time and energy

@yacineMTB @eigenrobot if indoctrination is your main concern, don’t fucking homeschool your kids. the risk of them “rebelling” >> risk of a random book at school convincing them to be trans

Is there a specific name for a type of good for which demand goes up when price goes up, but *not* for anything related to status, but rather the good’s inherent value rises w/ price. eg: a crypto that allows one to transfer more $ value sans-slippage the higher its price rises.

@yacineMTB cycle efficiency is not high. compressing gas generates a lot of waste heat, and using compressed air to turn turbines also has significant losses. under 20% of power input to such a battery will be recovered.

why don't people use pressurized gas as batteries? seems like an obvious move?
