@WickedMcCat

Raving mathtard, C++ enjoyer, undecidable λC shill. Ardent enemy of verbosity — there is no good boilerplate. Parametric polymorphism is not expressive enough.

remember last year when a revolving door of CEOs were making bombastic claims about AI generated code every week? microsoft, for instance, said "30% of their code was written by AI. by 2030, that'll be 99%" but what have they shipped? how does this stack up? - MS shipped a new windows run dialog that takes 100ms to load. that's right, a dialog with a text box and a button - GitHub can't even ship a new CEO and keep the thing running for more than 5 minutes - Amazon? crickets - Google? crickets bar gemini and gemma - OpenAI can't get GPT-5.5 to stop talking about goblins - Anthropic is a walking disaster of poor quality, user hostility and unreliability and yet how many times did we hear "you haven't seen what i've seen. you're not ready for what's coming" so what IS coming? where is it? i cant see it i only see bullshit, backtracking, bloat and bugs. at this point, i don't expect anything different than what we have now and, after all his bluster, neither does sam altman

@JustDeezGuy Yeah school math is weirdly bad. Worse yet I had to unmemorize the whole lot of it when I started uni math. Ngl it was still very much on par with being subjected to dentistry but it was like being let out of stale farts basement into fresh air.

I certainly found it weird and exasperating that I was taught proofs in 9th grade geometry… and saw neither hide nor hair of them again until real analysis, with everything between seeming to be based on arbitrary rules, vibes, and rote memorization.
Talia Ringer 🕊@TaliaRinger

I think these things helped give some high school kids intuition but my brain just panicked because I still couldn't unpack what they actually meant. Until Real Analysis in college which I found very easy. Got a C- in AP Calc BC and an A in Real Analysis I and II

@caballerobrah It's not comditioning imo — if you work with the software a lot and for a long time, learning the layout is peanuts against long term costs. Density is king. If you land on it randomly every once in a while, you need clean attention guidance and stuffing all complex stuff away

@WickedMcCat I miss Win 95-era UX so badly. Not sure if that’s because it was legitimately better or if just conditioning, but I miss it

To be frank all these thirty years of abusing a document layout engine for making "UI" amounts mostly to a big pile of rotten pig shit and none of this holds a candle to a textmode FoxPro from time immemorial, neither in usability nor in performance.
David Cramer@zeeg

TUIs are not good sorry yall a CLI is a utility, and situational. this should not be confused with stuffing a full interactive GUI into a low capability platform. "lets ignore all the great UI technology of the last 20 years and build some caveman shit"

@wordgrammer Methinks eerie lighting is mandatory as well. Looking like a shed doesn't message gravity.

Our society is increasingly distrusting of datacenters, and it was already pretty skeptical of 5g. To limit the burden on the public, I propose that we put all 5g towers on top of datacenters. That way they take up less space. Here are two such designs:

@DanielW_Kiwi We don't rightly try to rawdog it in a tshirt and flops. Unless drunk af that is, but that's a wholly different calculus.

@cmuratori Jesus, one starts feeling uncanny when lipsync drifts away some 50ms and they dare utter bullshit like that in public. Disgrace.
