The only thing guaranteed in life if you don’t chase winning is losing. Are you willing to sprint when the distance is unknown or will you give into your fear of that abyss. Don’t ever let the devil creep inside your heart.

@WildDogsOnly I believe this is pretty standard for FCS schools nationally. Most college coaches break in through similar positions.

Said it before and I’ll say it again get these types of job postings OUT of coaching. It’s ridiculous this is such the norm. Oh you want them to be proficient in six different things + have coaching experience but you offer no money, no housing, no benefits. Bullcrap

@WildDogsOnly A situation similar to this lost me everything. House, fiancé, and car. Yes the connections you make are important, but at the end of the day, I’m still looking for a coaching job. 🤦🏽‍♂️

@WildDogsOnly Western Illinois reportedly has an $84.3 million endowment, you would think they could scramble 100k for some staff and call it a $84.2 million endowment but what do I know

@Baghurst It’s so easy for you to say “stop taking the job” but when there’s no protection for the worker then this is the only option if they want to get their foot in the door. It’s a catch 22 for young coaches that all these schools love taking advantage

@Baghurst Until rules are put in place that protect the 99% of other coaches who aren’t getting paid a ridiculous salary, these positions will continue to be created because the schools know young coaches have no other choice.

@CoachF_Walker This will keep happening because there are no rules requiring adequate compensation to coaches. There is nothin that protects them

@VPArnoldCC There’s no rule requiring schools to adequately compensate athletic staff so schools take advantage of it for free labor and young coaches have to deal with it because there’s nothing else they can do. Quit it with your supply/demand hogwash

@VPArnoldCC This makes no sense. There is not a single person “demanding” a zero compensation job that also will work you into the ground. People do it because it’s the only way to give yourself a foot in the door on the off chance someone hires you in this profession

Our first day of full pads for spring ball this morning. Put the whole team on one side to start the drill. Nobody moves over to sideline until you participate. No escape. Football.

@ChalkLast0712 I’ll counter that by saying OC you have control of the pace and flow which makes it easier. DC we have to react, sometimes at break neck speed to your playcalls to try and get our players in the best position possible. It’s not like a defense can run no huddle on an offense

I’m biased as an OC but I think it’s OC by a large margin. Too often you see DCs just call base or nothing at all. OCs are constantly trying to figure out the best calls in a short time. DCs have more work on the weekend. OCs have a harder job on game day.

This is why some of the best football coaches will be found in HS Football. Not everyone has the means to NOT make any money for a year or two just to break through.

@Coach_Rowland_ It’s wild. When I first started I worked at a poor juco and then a poor D3 school. Both gave me free housing and unlimited dining hall meals because they couldn’t pay me

@Coach___Cooper Absolutely and also nepotism isn’t even close to as prevalent in high school ball as college. Especially because most are teaching as well. College level dudes with no experience get hired cause their best bud got a head coaching job haha

@CoachGreenOL They all have the funds. The reason they don’t do it is because there are zero rules requiring them to adequately compensate a coach. And don’t even begin to try and tell me they don’t have connections in housing to give a coach a dorm and meal plan

@Coach_Moore_BU Imagine like a car dealership posted a job for a “salesman position”. No salary, no commission. Needs to be proficient in sales tactics and computers. Full time hours. We would be like why would anyone do that? Yet this is totally normal in coaching

I was Asst QB Coach last season, it was this type of role and there is value. I have our playbook, cutups & film to teach the system (I changed some) if a get an OC/QB job. These jobs are what you make of them. Be a sponge take a lot of notes on everything. I saved all our stuff.

If a college/university can’t come up with $12,000 a year so a guy can at least have $750 a month for some food, gas in his car, ability to buy some laundry detergent, toothpaste, soap, etc then call the job a student assistant and target kids already enrolled in your institution. I get the “pay your dues” concept but it’s hypocritical to post this job IMO.
