I don't believe so, he was primarily a Wireless Operator. He was within A and SHQ Squadron of the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars / 7th Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment (D-Day Onwards). He was a Corporal in 1944 (time of this photo) and became a Sgt at some point between 1944 and 1946. My Grandfather (Sgt Richard Douglas Edwards) and he were best mates, both radio operators.

@DrHelenFry Helen, I'm led to believe the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars landed on D-Day +4, is there conflicting info here? Please do you have any more images from Willy or any others from the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars please. Thank you.

The happy chap on the left is Major Percival Huth, commander of 8th Hussars C Sdn. This photo was taken during the Battle of Imjin River in April 1951 when UN forces were withdrawing & nearly surrounded. To quote the QRH Museum: ‘Huth appears to be having the time of his life.’

Tesla Europe, Middle East & Africa
Tesla has been working hard toward shipping Full Self-Driving (Supervised) in Europe for over 12 months now. We have given FSD demos to regulators of almost every EU country. We have requested early access, pilot release programs or exemptions where possible. We have developed & shared detailed safety evidence for FSD, now public in our latest Safety Report. And we have driven over 1 million kilometers safely on EU roads across 17 different countries (internal testing).  Our main path to success is partnering with the Dutch approval authority RDW to gain exemption for the feature. This involves proving compliance with existing regulations (UN-R-171 DCAS) + filing an exemption (EU Article 39) for yet-to-be-regulated behaviors like Level 2 systems off-highway, system-initiated lane changes with hands-off the wheel etc.  Some of these regulations are outdated and rules-based, which makes FSD illegal in its current form. Changing FSD to be compliant with these rules would make it unsafe and unusable in many cases. While we have changed FSD to be maximally compliant where it is logical and reasonable, we won't sacrifice the safety of a proven system or materially deteriorate customer usability.  As a result, we are gathering evidence to get exemptions on a specific rule-by-rule basis. Unfortunately, the real world fleet-proven safety wins alone are considered insufficient.  Currently, RDW has committed to granting Netherlands National approval in February 2026. Please contact them via link below to express your excitement & thank them for making this happen as soon as possible. Upon NL National approval, other EU countries can immediately recognize the exemption and also allow rollout within their country. Then we will bring it to a TCMV vote for official EU-wide approval.  We're excited to bring FSD to our owners in Europe soon! rdw.nl/en/contact/our…

NEW: Chinese automaker appears to try recreating the viral Range Rover "Stairway to Heaven" climb, crashes through guardrail. Chery Automobile has apologized after the crash at Tianmen Mountain in Zhangjiajie, China. The company is promising to pay for a complete repair of the damage. "The outcome has exposed our insufficient assessment of potential risks and lapses in detail control during the planning and execution of this test," they reportedly said in a statement. The stairway is a total of 999 steps.

As Remembrance Day approaches, I’ve been reflecting on two years spent researching my grandfather’s and great uncle’s service with the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars (Desert Rats). Their stories — and those of the men they served alongside — have become deeply personal to me. I’m a visual person, and reading a list of 200 names from the regiment’s Roll of Honour — each a man who gave his life for his country — felt hard to truly grasp. Over the past week, I’ve been verifying every record (some missing, six unaccounted for, others conflicting) and finding ways to show their sacrifice more tangibly — to move beyond a list of names and reveal the human scale of loss. May I introduce the locations of the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars who made the ultimate sacrifice between 1939 and 1947. Each block represents one life cut short — one family who never saw their loved one return. These places mark not where they fell, but where they were laid to rest. This visual represents just 200 men from one regiment — a small part of the countless Commonwealth men and women who served, and of the many soldiers on both sides who endured unimaginable loss. As Remembrance Day nears, if you ever pass a war cemetery, visit the @CWGC website to see who rests there — and take a moment to remember them.
